BTX going the way of the DO DO
« on: September 11, 2006, 09:35:45 AM »
I guess like the PrescHOTt tech, this too was just a waste of intel's time. Maybe they should have just spent that R&D money on Beers for us GATTers? can I get a HELL YEAH!
Anyways here:

Intel BTX headed for the boondocks, report

Heat is off

By INQUIRER staff: Monday 11 September 2006, 09:49

HEXUS CLAIMS that Intel's BTX chassis standard is mostly headed for the gulag.
A news article there claims that Intel won't support BTX in 2007 except for existing SKUs (stock keeping units).

This would be, presumably, because its new microprocessors don't generate as much hot air as the old ones used to.

The article, here, reckons there's recently been a brain's trust between Chipzilla and its partners.

It also wonders whether a new chassis reference design will, phoenix-like, emerge from the ashes of BTX. µ

no loss really , but one day we may need to bring it.. or something similar back ie. a form factor with optimized cooling ,  While Core 2 and K8 are efficient procs there is a trend toward hotter and more power hungry components , video cards especially so  .

BTX was designed to aid coolig the processor and memory, putting the proc and memory inline with a channel of air from the front to back of the case - the cards get left out. It would require an alternative design to target cooling on the graphics card specifically.

Its far from a bad idea, but integrating it into the market to fit in atx cases (and vice versa) would have ensured adoption. which enthsiast is ging to buy btx when the next dfi lanparty wont fit?
:P random text doesn't go out of date does it?
