- Successfully changing the CCFL backlight in the LCD of a HP Pavilion laptop. Is a very sensitive job, about 2 hours if you're patient enough. The hardest past is actually removing the bad LCD and installing the replacement. Not something I want to do again anytime soon...

- Watching a "police vs police" argument play off in gas the station near the Airport. In the NP Petromart store, one plain clothes police was asking another plain clothes police his identity because the 2nd officer, apparently brandish a gun for the 1st.The 1st office is a fairly young officer, apparently in his 30s  The [alleged] 2nd officer, an older guy, possibly in his 50s,  repeatedly keep shouting "I am not having any conversation with you!" while buying a phone card in response to the 1st officer's very calm queries as to if he had a gun and if he was indeed a police.

It so happened that a marked police vehicle with two plain clothes officer were also parked by KFC and they both went to them. the 2nd officer show the officers in the marked vehicle while deliberately refusing the show the 1st officer who challenged him.

1st officer went to the 2nd officer's vehicle to query the other occupants. The 1st was having none of that: "Ann, do not have any conversation with that clown!" Ann puts up her glass forthwith.

It ended with the 2nd officer being allowed to drive away in his pickup with his family and the 1st arguing with the officers in the marked vehicle about protocol and the conduct of fellow officers.

I was some distance away, but it was amusing to watch. I do think the older officer was ignorant, aggressive and could have easily avoided confrontation as the first was prepared to "engage" with firearm drawn in response to the 2nd's alleged placing of his firearm on his pickup's dashboard in full view of the first and his gf.

pops lost 10 grand and a blackberry. The waste a time security in there, we see one woman running F***in BIRDS with a broom, then have the nerve to come and say:

 "I was sitting down right there *points to some random location* and didn't see nothing! When you notice that happen?"

...

Steups. and not like is bandits smash the glass and grab a bag and gone. They had time to carefully smash the side panel of the rear window, unlock the door and search through a briefcase, and return everything to its original position.

Last time we go back there, since there's a pricesmart closer to us now.
According to the Head of Security, the parking lot has a disclaimer freeing the owners from responsibility from this kind of thing. There are no cameras in the parking lot. Apparently this same thing happened to Ian Alleyne not too long ago as well.

Steups security in most places is a waste of time. I try my very best not to leave anything of value in my car, not even in the trunk. If I park up somewhere and I have laptop etc. I take it with me. Inconvenient yes but at least when they break in they can only steal car parts...... :s

I guess since its Trinidad we talking about, there is no Insurance that covers the stolen items in cars parked on their property? Thats utter bullcrap. They have security, they failed to do their job, so they should be held accountable. You should be able to file a claim against their insurance or the insurance of the plaza...Unless they have a sign up saying "park at your own risk"

Thats why i tuck all bookbags under the seat to make them harder to see, and things that cant fit in the trunk... chances are even if they are standing around to see you do that someone might notice more...

The High Commission of India.

Yes, I know, I was to lock them off the last time. Well this time it's for good.

I will give just a summary:

IN November 2009 just before CHOGM, I was called out on Sunday for do work on Sunday. I spent 4 hours there, effectively messing up my home plans for that day.

At the end of the month I submitted an invoice for $700. It should have been $1400 as I charged double rate as it was a Sunday, but I acted in "good faith" based on the length of time I have done work for them.

Other invoices for work done post-CHOGM were paid but not this one. In January 2010, not receiving satisfactory answers from the accounts department I sent a letter to the First Secretary (the 2nd in command of the High Commission) about it. He is the person who ultimately approves payments and actually signs the cheques. He instructed me to speak to accounts department again. I was literally given a 'run around' from the accounts department till In February  I was offered  a paltry $350 as a "take it or leave it" offer.

I took the cheque and immediately sent a 4 page letter severely chastising this man for short paying me without good reason, with copies to the High Commissioner (Ambassador) and two of his subordinates. No response. I found out that I was even replaced by another contractor. No problem. Less headache for me.

I recently learned of the First Secretary's pending departure from the country and sent a letter to the High Commissioner this week requesting his intervention. Still no response. When I called, I learned the matter was being "discussed".

After 8 months you still have to "discuss" paying $350??? WHAT?!?!

Today after much pondering of my options (some of which could have landed me in jail!), I went to the Woodbrook Police Station, armed with copies of my letters, for their assistance. After a detailed explanation, the corporal I spoke to asked for a number to the embassy. It so happened I actually had a number for a direct line to First Secretary's office at the embassy. As soon as he realized the police was calling on my behalf:

"Come for your cheque."

Thanks to god for the outcome. Why did this man stall to pay me for so long? I dunno and I no longer care, but I suspect that he found that 5000 rupees was too expensive for computer repairs. For good measure, I think I will forward a complaint to the Indian Government....

To Mr. Raj Chawla, outgoing First Secretary of the High Commission of India in Port of Spain:

-When you travel to a foreign country, diplomatic or tourist, please respect the laws, customs, and economy of the country you visit!
-Do not pull this foolish nonsense at your next diplomatic posting on the African continent. They will not be even half as diplomatic as I was in response...


UPDATE #1:
At 3pm I went to the Embassy for the cheque. Guess What? NO CHEQUE!!

After about 10 minutes of waiting, one Mr. Yadav comes to me and explains that the person who write the cheque is not at work due to surgery
 (What does this have to do with me? Iw as told a cheque would be ready!)
He assured me that the cheque would be ready on Monday. After telling in no uncertain terms how stupidly that an embassy and I have part ways, I advised him that I had the police call his superior directly via his direct line and very sternly warned him to keep his word.

WTMC at certain drivers, wow man I nearly got into a head on collision today because someone thought it was cool to drive into a major road with no indicator or stopping. I saw the car at the intersection on my left, took my time just in case he was in a hurry. You know as I reach up to the car he start to peel out and nearly hit me, I had to pull onto the other side of the road and nearly lost control. I am paranoid these days , first my aunt 2 weeks ago from a head on collision and then another friend this weekend from a bad drive, steups ridiculous.

Well NEO, it doesn't look that this will be over just yet. My mother told me a while ago that she received 4 harassing phone calls around 7:45am this morning from a blocked number from an unknown person speaking in Hindi!! Given that i known all the members of staff there for a while, I already have my suspect.

Oh well, looks like a visit to the Chief Protocol Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs first thing tomorrow morning to file a formal complaint, and then FedEx a complaint letter directly to the Minister of External Affairs in India!

I know the location of the official residences ofevery single one of the diplomats working at the embassy! C'mon, most of them have called me to their homes to do private work because of the quality of the service I rendered at their embassy, and about 6 of them all live in a lil apartment building at one address. STEUPS!!

What is to stop me from tapping into my "inner goonta" chakra and going by their apartment when I know they all home and burning an Indian flag in the road for them to see? (The fastest arrest, charge, court hearing and jail term Trinidad will have seen in a while...)

But I will not stoop to such lower caste level of behaviour. I will deal with this by the book.
