well, forunately for that car the drive wheels were the front ones, but damage is still being done to the handbrakes and/or tyres! ...if the handbrakes work well enough then flat-spot tyres ftw!

I am all for being understanding and all... but how other than intolerance will anything change in this country? if it's illegal regardless of the short duration it's illegal, standing by your car doesn't make it legal. Since when are we advocating disobeying the law?

Now like I said from a understanding perspective it was harsh... but if the protective forces moved THAT dread with ALL illegal acts, don't you think T&T might be a better place? they hadda start somewhere.

The POINT is, that the correct procedure was not followed.  No one is arguing whether the car
was parked illegally or not.  The fact that they didn't follow THEIR OWN procedure, and by extension
THE LAW, is what is appalling here.

@ Arc... what exactly is the CORRECT and LAWFULL procedure for wrecking a man car? in the US and other developed nations once they start to tow your car, you could be sitting on it, point is you're WRONG... so in T&T and our undeveloped status, what is the ABSOLUTE procedure they are SUPPOSED to by LAW to follow?

Wrong is Wrong eh but in the US dey give u a parkin ticket on sight or dey put a clamp on ur car like wat dey does do in uwi. Dey does tow ur car but too but even if dey towing dey doh pickup an drag ur vehicle like that...well atleast some of em :-P.

W1n, its clearly written down at the station.  Crixx can tell you.  The officer is supposed to enquire
at nearby premises who the vehicle belongs to.  If the owner presents himself, he is then asked to remove the vehicle.  if its already 'hooked up' and THEN the owner presents himself before the wrecker leaves,
the owner is supposed to be ticketed, and the car unhooked.  ONLY if none of the above are satisfied,
are the police/wrecker supposed to take the vehicle...but you know trinis. Most times the officer is like
'well, me ent goin in all dem place nah, is a hard luck for de owner...jus jack up dah car dey leh we go'.

First and foremost, they HAVE to announce their presence, stating that they are officers of the law and not random men taking your car. Thats the reason a police rides along with tow trucks so that they can inform people that this is a police transaction.

Then as arc stated, the LAW that governs both them and us states that officers are mandated to check for the owner of the vehicle, ask the owner to remove the vehicle, if the owner does not remove the vehicle, then they are issued a fine and THEN if they still do not remove the vehicle, they are then towed.
you dont skip point A , which is to announce your self, and go straight to point d, which is to tow the vehicle.

THe law does not state, a person parked illegal shall be towed and fined.
The law states that a  car is parked illegally, steps a through d MUST be followed.
The offence comes after not removing your vehicle WHEN ASKED TO DO SO BY A POLICE OFFICER!!
States that VERY clearly on the aforementioned 6 foot tall poster on Police Station wall and door.

So Wintry, please educate yourself with the conditions of the law before you go making asshole statements like that please.

with out procedures like that, police can take it upon themselves to dole out what ever punishment they see fit for whatever crime or situation is present.

I was waiting AND expecting such a response from crixx. That being said, the reason I posted to arc about the procedure was to be made aware of that information. I understand crixx you are bitter at the whole ordeal as I said EPIC FAIL on their part. Also just as in most/any justice system penalties for crime vary according to the nature of the crime. So if J-walking is a crime and you're caught, then sure a fine on the spot or whatever the penance is should be delt, obviously it's not going to be lose an arm. But as I said I can appreciate yuh vex and rightfully so.

I wonder how many other ppl besides me noticed that the during the summit weekend the Police & Regiment boys that usually have there assault rifles all over the place for some reason were weapon-less, just swinging hands or batton B-)
