SOFTWARE BEHEMOTH Microsoft has applied for an odd patent which forces people to look at advertisements.

Patent number 20070033102 uses face-recognition webcams to tell if users are paying attention to the advertisement. If they don't, then the software will disable or repossess the computer.

The patent says that it can make sure that paid advertising is watched. It involves asking users a question about an advertisement or requiring data about the advertisement to be entered.

The idea is that when the advertisement is correctly answered then cash will be sent to a user account.

The big idea is that schools will make a bit of cash on the side by forcing kids to become marketing guinea pigs and the patented technology will make sure they obey.

- Huge companies not preparing for an event or product launch. Blizzard did it when they launched World of Warcraft and to a lesser extent with Burning Crusade. Amazon did it big time when they had the Xbox 360 Core system for $100 last Christmas. Now, we have Microsoft who started their Xbox Rewards program yesterday. The site was literally unaccessible for the entire day and is only now in a semi-working condition today, the day after the program started. It is just a matter of bad preparation and incorrectly underestimating the demand.

yuh hear 'bout some big bouge Fete (all inclusive for Hoy-poloys... Max Richards/Manning sort-of-crowd) in Chaguarams Golf Course last weekend. only hear de smart idea; have all de big bouge park der cars in Pier 1 and Bowen Marine car park, and have Maxi Taxi 'Shuttle' bring dem to d fete! now you know how ppl show up to fete? one by one till de place pack out! but what happens when last entertainer done? EVERYONE whah leave now for now! this is where it gets intesting... the same 'Shuttle Service' which is only a handfull of Maxi Taxi have to make trips back and forth to bring de Big Bouge back to der Benz & Bimmer... only @ 4 in de morning, yuh head bad, and you tired like ra$$! so... ppl start de long walk! so when shuttles see dem walkin de road, of course de stoppin for dem, and spinnin round in d road, so dey ain't makin it back to d fete to shuttle waitin ppl... one thing leads to d nex... and someone pelt drink in one shuttle driver face, bottle break nex windshield, ALL drivers say F*** DAT! and ALL maxi leave de dance!! EVERYONE have to walk from Golf Course to Pier 1/Bowne!! hmmm...makes me wonder; these so called up-right-propper-sh1t-don't-stink-kind-o-people, dey ain't no different to criminal in de same situation!!
