 - when you find out, totally by accident, that someone was on your wireless network.

Trying to print somethng, and lo and behold, in my list of printers is an 'Auto HP Deskjet 840C on [COMPUTER NAME]'.

WTMC!!?  O_O

Now I KNOW that I dont have any printer like that...and the computer name is strange too, so imagine my surprise.....

XP has this habit of automatically searching the network for shared resources, so that when you click 'My Network Places', all shared folders/drives/printers
would show up one time.  When you have a shared printer on your system, and you join a network (wired or wireless), that printer is picked up by ALL the
other PCs on the network, if this feature is on, (and I think its on by default.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong).


Of course I change WEP password and key index ONE TIME!!!!

The lesson here of course is to change your WEP wireless password often.  Or you can use the stronger WPA encyption, but the setup is not as
quick and easy.

go around your house with your laptop and see the average rate you are getting then go into your router and set the rate to that speed, so for anyone to connect they will have to connect at that rate or the won't and the only way to do that they will need to be in your house to.

WTMC when a customer of mines tell me this story about her friend.

Imagine you driving with your brand 'new' foreign used car, driving west along highway int eh vicinity of Trincity mall. in your rear view you see police with sirens blaring, aa you are already in the left lane so you figure they'll simply overtake you, but then you realize you don't and they are int he left lane. you pull to a stop on the shoulder to given them the room  they need, only to realize that it is you they had sirens on for.

The person this happened to was told if they didn't know that "after PCF was PCG." Person had to tell the officers that Licensing made a decision to skip the PCG plate due to it being too close to the Coast Guard plate naming, CG. That and the fact that when they checked her documents they were authentic. Only then she was let go.

Goes to show how uninformed police can be. you'd think that EVERY single police facility in the country would have gotten notice of what Licensing did, especially as it was approved by cabinet.
