Shortage on New Intel Chips (AGAIN)
« on: August 22, 2006, 10:11:31 AM »
According to an article on PC World, there has been a spike in for Intel's new chip sets.  I'm sure you all know that shortage issues were blamed for causing the company to lose market share to rival AMD last year.

When they decreased prices for desktop chips in July, the demand led component makers hustle to keep up.  Sunny Han, director of Marketing for Asustek, said "This year, the problem is with the 965 chip set," said Han, referring to the shortage. He added that he knows of no production glitches, but instead believes that sharp increase in demand caught companies by surprise.

intel lost market share to AMD because they had a shitty product .. shortages were just a minor thing..

I just got a 965 chipset mobo ( DOA) and ordered another....  not serious shortage ,but it does affect pricing .

The only problem I've ever had that was even remotely related to AMD was due to being irritated with Asus for always having to upload chipset drivers for the board.  I don't even remember what it was, just that it was an A Socket that was very particular about when you loaded the chipset drivers for AGP alone.  It used to give me fits for new graphics cards....ya' had to install Chipset, DX, and new AGP every time you had a change to any of those elements.  I was pretty happy when I finally fried that POS and bought a cheap gigabyte A socket instead.  But that was a LONG time ago by computing standards.  Not anywhere near as long as Spark X workstations (man I loved those things).
I'd believe u if you were right.

I gonna RMA it and sell it, it will take like a month to RMA , while only a week to ship a new one , ordered an Asus with more o/c options...
I not 100% sure the mobo is bad , it is powering the components and the cpu gets warm, but if its incompatible i need a new one anyway.

I definately would not waste my money on a 965/975 board now that only supports that rather lacking crossfire tech but wait for Nvidia's 590 to come out in a couple months...when that come out, then we go be talking bout core 2 duo 63/6600 SLI wtfomgpwnage.

AMD guys love nforce chipsets since it's only them, ati, sis or VIA ( eww ) to choose from, put against intel chipsets they have always been lacking in stability, Ocability, heat, reliability. Yes price vs features nf570/590 looks better than 965/975 and in games they perform 2-5 fps better but have you ever used nf4sli before? to know the bugs, the constant unexplainable crashes ?

As Gary Coleman would say..."Whatchoo talking bout?" I don't know what nf4 sli chipset board you used that had "constant explainable crashes." I think u dealth with some crappy low wnd board or was just unlucky enough to get a bad one or something because th nf4 sli i know doesnt constantly crash. As a matter of fact, its those intel boards that crash regularly for unknown reasons. A good friend of mine currently has an intel chipset board with a pentium D that crashes and bsod's regularly. One minute we freaking cod, next minute  he gone. Why? BSOD.

Sexy processor there btw.

I have not had much hand on experience with intel chipsets in recent times (save for the lowly HP/Compaq machines that we use in the office)

but back in the day, they were ever as problematic as their AMD brethren. You needed to be very careful in the selection of a mobo.

As manufacturers go, Asus had their share of disasters with the nforce line as well. Spent countless hours on forums finding fixes and workarounds.

Biostar and Gigabyte remain my boards of choice nowadays. Cheap and good immc. Have yet to run around desperately in a forum trying to find a fix for either's products instability or the likes.

That said, there is always a first time.

In any event, when I go to Core 2 Duo in a month or two, it will be with a gigabyte/biostar board for sure.

DFI nF590SLI-T2R/G OFFICIALLY CANCELLED

We had a little chat with DFI this evening and they informed us that their highly anticipated LANParty UT nF590SLI-T2R/G motherboard has been officially canceled. It seems that DFI had decided to discontinue the motherboard before it was even released. Apparently, DFI is not very happy with NVIDIA's C19 chipset which resulted in poor overclocking when implemented on any motherboard. If you didn't know, the DFI LANParty UT nF590SLI-T2R/G motherboard is based on the nF590 Intel Edition C19 chipset which officially supports Intel Core 2 Duo processors and Quad SLI. The motherboard is one of the meanest looking socket LGA775 motherboards in the market and it also comes with a high-end digital PWM.

Nevertheless, DFI is currently working on the newer NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI Intel Edition C55 chipset and the motherboard has been rescheduled from 2007 to Q4 2006. We can expect a brand new DFI Intel Edition SLI motherboard within 2 to 3 months time and we were told that DFI is putting their main focus in this project.

So for now 975 is still king with the P5w64ws Pro
