ATI's X1950 Pricing
« on: August 21, 2006, 09:17:56 AM »
Just rolled across this on the net...it looks quite a bit cheaper than first anounced.

WE LEARNED that the upcoming X1950 PRO based on RV570 chip is going to be cheaper than expected. This card is expected in October and will end up with a juicy price of $199. Nvidia will price its Geforce 7900GS at the same price but Nvidia wants to fight RV560 with this card.

RV570 is a 256 bit memory interface card with 256 or 512MB memory working at 1100 MHz and engine that is suppose to run at a 600MHz or 650MHz core.

Nvidia will have the hard task to fight this one but as it didn’t announced anything it will always be able to make some slight changes in its roadmaps to fight this one
I'd believe u if you were right.

And potentially all its DRM infected glory. Time will tell, but its the same as you buying an X1800XT now, by the time I ready i'll obviously look at whats at the best price to performance and most importantly that which fits my budget.

Here's hoping it can finally replace the x1800xt - something the laughable x1900gt could not.

*W1nTry drools all over keyboard*

details and some benchies can be had here.

Beo, when you refer to 'replacement' of the X1800XT by the X1900GT.... I take it you mean on a cost basis, otherwise I would have considered the X1900XT as the replacement. I still consider the latter as the case or even the X1900XTX seeing as the X1800XT WAS the KOTH card for ATI and the X1900XTX was it's replacement in the performance dept.

Yall don't have an appreciation of how F***** huge those cards are , my x1800xt could barely FIT in my case , it as long as the motherboard! and the fan pretty annoying.... this card gonna be BIGGER and hotter
rumours of this card beating a 7950GX have been debunked by techreport , i didn't believe them anyway,  how can a single GPU card beat 2 with a good bit more raw power?

i think the reason ati and amd use red is so people dont notice the evil red boiling glow of the card caused not by lights, but by radiant heat and demon spawn energy

ATI is trying their best, but their big, rediculous, power hungry cards just wont sell for me. Imagine having two of those bricks in a xfire config. Plenty space gone, lightbill through the roof and just mediocre performance at the end of it all.

You'll fail to realize the 7900GTX is just as big as these cards? sure the heatsink on this is larger than the previous X1900XTX cooler, and in no way any larger than the multi-heatpipe coolers on the 7900GTX, however the simple reason for the upgrade was 1. Silent cooling (a complaint by many for the previous solution). I am unsure whether the use of GDDR4 caused any extra heat due to extra MHz. The reason I say I am unsure is because, with each new revision of memory tech, the voltages go down but the frequency goes up. So its a give and take situation. Without overall power requirements we won't know if the card is hotter or in fact cooler than its predecessor. I would buy such a card, because at that price/performance point its a good buy. On another note, WDA you doing buying a $HIT small case if yuh have cash to blow on a high end card? get serious. Man wanna buy normal case, with HIGH end parts and complain the video card too big.

GG by ouch I take it you mean the LIHIXX the X1950XTX layeth on the 7900GTX... cause DUYAMN dem crazy mofos running the benchies @ 2048x1536 (with some as high as 4xAA on top of that) and the 7950 is just SCREAMING and I doh mean sound wise... I do admit that the 7900GTX does hold its own very well... but considering how much it loses by in some cass... even in the SLI vs. Xfire... Damn... even the 7950 (single) is getting wtfPWNED in some benchies.. that SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. THe 7950 is a DUAL card, so its effectively SLI on its OWN. TO be getting pwned by a SINGLE GPU CARD is UNACCEPTABLE. Granted quad sli should win overall, its still a very poor showing that a dual card is taking a beating from a single card. SHAME.. what was that trini??? techreport dispelled the 1950's ability to best the 7950? umm ok if you say so...

iI mean in terms of pricing - the x1800xt was available for $200 when the x1900gt hit. YET the x1800xt was more powerful. So sad it's gone now :( The x1900xt is a class above.
