Benchmarks show ATI spanking Nvidia @ss more or less, and these are with beta drivers and not even in DX10 yet.

Interesting that NDA eh... LMAO... nice correlation of score thus... but expect nvidia to release their updated 88xx series hopefully which will trickle down to the 8800GTS. I would have like to see the Xt vs. the GTX though... and perhaps the XTX vs. the GTX as well... TOP dog vs TOP dog... ah well.

Well x2900xt is finally out after much delay. Read the review here. Jedi found this link but he was sticking to post it up so I assisted  Its pretty much what I expected, nothing spectacular. 8800gts seems to go head to head with it for the most part. Killer overclockability though. I guess that's where the real fun starts. Prices on the 8800gts has already dropped on Amazon.com from $38X and $300 to $367 and $286 for the 640 and 320 respectively. Looks like the 640 is just within my reach now. Good thing my order on the 320 didnt go through. I think Jedi said that the x2900xt is available on Zipzoom already!!!

Its strange Guru didnt include Oblivion and Neverwinter Nights 2 in their benchmark to give an idea of performance against the most demanding of games. In any event, it seems as the 640 gts has already come down within my price grasp thanks to r600. It has served it's purpose.

Steups @ arcxes
Here are other reviews:
http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=39580
http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1100/ati_radeon_hd_2900_xt_amd_s_long_awaited_r600_dx10_gpu_arrives/index.html

Based on what i've been reading thus, the HD2900XT beats the GTS and can even upset the GTX in some instances. Its' priced to compete with the GTS (640MB) and thus gets the one up so far. I will read more reviews as time goes along and of course BOTH DAAMIT and Nvidia have driver issues to sort out. The fact that you can get 2 HD290XTs for the price of a single 8800Ultra speaks mounds in my mind. So Steups @ arc again, whatever is best bang for buck is my choice, if the HD keeps a good price and drops a bit it would be the preferred choice, let's not forget HDCP and true Vista compliance while we're at it (not that those bother me... drm infections and all) but DAAMITs AA and FSAA is still superior to Nvidia's offering, AND power consumption isn't as bad as Nvidia would LIKE you to believe, in fact its better :p anyways expect more reviews as the day progresses.

I find that tweak town review kinna retarded. Why would they compare the x2900xt against a 8800gtx and not the gts when it was meant to compete with the gts640, and, I mean, come on, this is what the masses want to see. Reading Guru3d's review, I can't see where performance is soooo much better, for the most part, the hype of the uber performance over the GTS is nowhere to be found. Sure there's better performance some paces but the same also holds true for the gts.

Win, I must say that you're sounding like a bit of an ATI fanboy. You starting to sound like Crixx a lil bit.

I am an ATI fan, however I ain't no fanboy, doh classify me with crixx in that respect. But you can also appreciate where I coming from with its no hands down winner per say. The way I see it, if nothing else, at least prices should become better. I like what i've read so far about the R600 in reviews. It still has issues and its performing quite well against the competition. Nvidia has had alot of time with the 8xxx series to have worked out the bugs which it still has for some strange reason, but at the same time, its safe to say DAAMIT will not be taking the performance crown from the ...other green team anytime too soon as the GTX is just plain faster atm. The conclusions of all the reviews i've read thus (4 so far) all point towards it being a very good competitor sitting just between the GTS and GTX with the price of a GTS. This is a GOOD thing.

You're right. ATI is great competition. Between now and last night, the price of the 640 gts has dropped approximately $30.

I'm not too clear on this...doesnt 8800 support HDCP or it isnt true support...Is there a difference between nvidia and ATI hdcp? Also isnt ATI and Nvidia both Vista ready?

Hmm ok I may have been a bit misleading. R600 is VISTA PREMIUM certified. For this to be accomplished sound and Video output via HDMI CANNOT be split. Since the R600 offers a special HDMI output which carries both HDCP and 5.1 Digital sound, its VRC. Even a X1k and Geforce 7x can be Vista certified (aka DX9)... just not premium. Its written in most/all of the reviews.

Steups @ arcxes

lol.  whatever.

I was looking at it from a pure performance perspective (which is wrong, I know).
I read 3Dguru's review again, alongside the 8800 review, and I can understand where
AMD is coming from with the 2900 XT part.  The technology to compete is certainly there,
but I want mucho fps for mucho resolution daamit (pun intended).

All that fancy CFAA and Tessellation don't mean squat to me right now.
ESPECIALLY if overall performance is lower than the competition.

You're missing one important factor arc, the card is performing well above what the human eyes can differentiate as it is??? thats the thing with cards today. UNLESS you're running RIDICULOUS resolution on a 30" and above LCD @ 2568x19whatever you're going to get above 30-60FPS min and above 120FPS normal... sure the GTX will get up to 20% higher framerate, but will you notice 160FPS vs 200FPS??? with 16xAA and 24xAnsio? NO you'll not be able to see it. Not ONLY that, but the HD2900XT is managing HIGHER LOWEST FRAPS... meaning the actual gameplay is SMOOTHER, THAT is something you WILL notice. Just throwing out some things to think bout there Arc. If yuh had to compare its like comparing a Ferrari and a Lamourgini, they're both fast, but the faster one will have say worse milleage. So you can go faster but you'll have to stop more often. Which will win the race... its subjective. Depends on the course, depends on conditions... same here really. And hey with GTS-GTX performance at the price of a GTS yuh CYAH go wrong.

Oh, btw another REALLY LONG review:

Oh, I get all that, but you have a part that compares to a GTS (more so than the GTX),
with a power envelope that EXCEEDS the GTX!!?

Not very efficient power usage.
Of course it goes without saying that upgrading to this card (the 2900) will require
a MANDATORY power supply upgrade.  The thing uses TWO PCIe connectors (6-pin and 8-pin)
for pete's sake.  I guess thats the price of progress.

The ultimate word on which draws more power is still out imho. Out of the 5 reviews i've read, the HD 2900XT draws less overall power in 3 of the 5. Inquirer, Tomshardware and 1 other can't rem which show it having a lower power drain than the GTX, so i'm not sure what to make of this yet. So don't count that factor till its been verified universally. That being said all the reviews I read have it running on a 500W PSU, so a mandatory PSU upgrade seems to be BS atm. Anything else arc?

'BS'?

Lemme ask you something W1n.  HOW MANY PC users in Trinidad RIGHT NOW using a 500W PSU that capable enough
to run that 2900?  Not very many, I can ASSURE you that.  So yes, a PSU upgrade WILL
be mandatory for anybody in TnT that is interested in that card.

So what you really telling me.....?

Arc...no need to get pissy. Come on man. Right. Now any one of us serious about their gaming rigs will have a decent power supply right? At least 500w. Whether youre green or red, you need a decent PSU. Now personally I am a poor mofo so I'm hoping and praying i can get away with using a 430w seasonic s-12 with my soon to be 8800gts 640. Chances of this working with the 2900xt is most likely slim to none though.
