Author Topic: 965 OR 975?? WHICH OF THE TWO IS GOING TO BED WITH CONROE? (Read 5526 times)

With all the focus we have been paying to the conroe itself, we have kinda put the boards out of our thoughts.

I personally wanna hold out till 965 is mature and doing the things its supposed to but as of now, the phenomenal things that people are doing with the 975 for conroe is really eye catching.

Asrock has a $55 conroe board that is geared obviously for the cheap bastards out there.
and while i dont think iam a cheap bastard, this board is giving me the first real solution i may have as too what iam gonna do with my current system once its time for me to go conroe because i dont really feel like just throwing my 6800 into obscurity.

So iam thinking of getting an e6300, keeping my 6800, getting some good 800 or 1066 ram and new hard drives and running with this until 965 is doing what i want it to do hopefully by christmas. and i can use my dell in the mean time for storage and for all my s2k projects i need to do.

oh and um amd sucks.

Both 965 and 975 will bed conroe, 965 being the sucessor in some ways. As best as i've seen the 975 has been coupled with the Extreme Core whilst 965 will be the mainstream. If you going Conroe, you'd be safe with both, but to be honest Look for the Crossfire chipset. Thing is, the conroe/crossfire combo WAS to be intels gaming platform of choice. Yuh know why it's no longer, but the fact that it was suggests it's abilities. Also all the reviews online suggest this will be the first chipset made by a 3rd party vendor to be faster and better than it's intel counterpart. Crossfire for conroe will also sport 3x 16x PCIe slots + 1x 1xPCIe + PCI. It will also overclock better than 975 and 965. Also with Nvidia opening up the SLI marchitecture, if you really want to stay with the green goblins, you will be able to run SLI on the Crossfire mobo so no worries there.

lol, sorry, couldn't help dat; but seriously, as wicked as the Conroe performance figures are right now, the prices are a b!tch.
I would like to see some price/performance matchups of the e6300 Conroe segment against the now much cheaper AMD single and dual-core Athlon 64s.

If the performance gains are more than 30 percent (for a comparable price), then mih nex rig might just be an Invidia combo.
I aint ready for all that new expense yet though.

arcman, yu talkin bout price? lol look at the fx 62, 800+ dollars and is beat solidly by an atleast 10 to 15% margin by the e6600 which is selling for 300+ dollars so wat more yu want?

i'm going with a cheap 965 mobo...

965 is for medium end mobos , without crossfire/sli or at least with only 1 16 and 1 4x PCI-E slot, in some areas 965 is faster than 975 because of a newer memory controller , but if you want a high end rig go with 975....

i am a high proponent of the 6300 eh buh the 6400 sexier and the 6600 may actually be worth the 300 dollar price tag, i mean it out performs an fx62 stock

so far less when i oc it as i definatellyyyy will be doing, it will just kill for years to come
even though the intel gods have chosen ati i stilll never ever gonna run any ati nonsense in my machine

the e6400 wearing my price tag around it's neck, that is: US$300 or less.

I've seen it for $260.00 at some places.

The e6600 on the other hand has been sporting $400-460.00 at places like newegg and such.

It have like only one store on the ENTIRE internet with it anywhere near US$300.00

Hopefully in a month things will settle down a bit.

Really want to compare this in some real world games against a lowly single core Athlon 64 processor to see if I could feel the difference with the extra cpu oomph.

SO funny you mention that Trini. Just a week or 2 ago, ppl were saying that the Crossfire 3200 wouldn't be out on the AM2 socket before Crossfire 1600 for conroe... and yet... what's this HERE I guess there were some other good things to come out of the AMD/ATI buyout. That aside, what is so difficult in waiting till then Trini? (are you sure about that date, I suspect they'll wanna push it out the door sooner seeing as intel will probably neglect to update their Crossfire license with ATI?) In the least, waiting til Oct which is very close will see some price drops in the CPU dept. and with Crossfire 1600 maybe a drop in the 975 in the least. I think it's worth it seeing as you'll have 3x 16XPCie slots+ and so far it's shown to be the better OCer.

fans, thermal grease , 50 pack of DVDs to backup etc.
Total : 720 USD..
=4500tt

You forget i suffering with a geforce 5200 that can't play warcraft or counterstrike 1.6 without lag , yea i could have saved a few hundred TT if i waited a month but i'd rather not.. Besides , i got a damn good deal with an x1800xt for 199 USD... that card will play even Crysis and unreal 2007 good next year ...

I hear yuh, it's like myself when I went Yonah vs. Merom (which had I waited... well i'd STILL be waiting). Nice @ X1800XT, though yuh could prolly get a X1900XT for about 100-150USD more, but I guess the performance difference doesn't warrant the increase in price, at least not till more shader intensive games come out. Why the 6300 though? i'd have gone for at least the 2.13GHz

indeed @ e6300, its big selling point is that on stock cooling it is a very good ocer and will give great performance for its price
