I found this article funny:

Intel pulls ATI from Conroe launch

Own goal, own goal!

By Charlie Demerjian: Thursday 27 July 2006, 06:44

I WAS GOING to rant about the first real test of the AMD/ATI marriage happening later today at the Conroe launch, how will Intel react?
Will they take the high road, and do what is best for their users, or get cross and shoot themselves in the foot. Answer? High velocity lead podiatry.

Yeah, Intel is said to have pulled all ATI parts from the launch tomorrow, turning the circus tent into a real political circus. If you read Rahul's Blog about it, you will see that up to a few days ago, Conroe + Crossfire was the gaming platform of choice for the new Intel era. That was Monday pre-8am EST though.

So, now ATI is forbidden from Intel semi-officially, and who wins? The user? Nope, SLI won't run on Intel chipsets (yet). Intel? Nope, they have a gaming event that will probably end up showing the awesome power of 4 monitors over high frame rates and resolution on a single monitor. The poor demo guy who has to put a few dozen Conroe + NV boxes together on a day's notice? Certainly not him, but guys, give him a raise.

Basically the Intel move shows that it is not about what is best for the customers, it is about petty spite. Things like this are ruining the industry, I couldn't agree with Rahul more, but I was kind of hoping that Intel would stand up and take the high road. Yeah, I know.

Intel's 64-bit performance still lags AMDs, actually.  New core or no.

So if you are going 64-bit, there is less compelling rationale to go INtel, despite the speed.

If you are upgrading from Socket A and lowend Socket 754, maybe.

Does Intel do SLI dual videocards as yet?  Apart from the Nvidia port of their nForce 4 SLI chipset to the Intel architecture?

I am going to be in the market for a brand new PC in a few months and was considering an AM2 chip. Now, though, I have to admit that the Intel E6300 looks more enticing from a price/performance standpoint. A chip that is just a bit slower than a FX-62 for $700 US less. Hmm ... sounds good to me. If Vista was going to be 64-bit only, I might lean more toward the AMD side but as of right now, I am in Intel's camp.

no rich

intel is as of yet not officially supporting sli with their own chipset.
But now that ati and amd are having insestual relations, their crossfire chipset may be a bit undesireable to intel as well, so this may work out with ah "hey nvidia, whats going on heh heh heh" kinda situation and in a few revisions we will get sli.

thats propoganda spread buy @md fanboys.... Alot of 64 bit programs run SLOWER than their 32 bit brothers on BOTH amd and intel ...  the Core 2 still gets performance boosts in alot of programs  under 64 bit...

I read through that article and funny enough, the heading was to dispel ideas that the 64-bit performance was sub-AMD. Interestingly enough xbit labs themselves mention in the article that it isn't enough from some of the benchmarks to conclude that it bests AMD64 implementation vs. EMT64. In most cases 64 bit is slower, however in a good few its even faster. Needless to say amd wins some intel wins more (overall) and it can be concluded that the 64-bit operation is not significantly affected by Intels less native implementation.

Dais on Windows.

Linux 64-bitness is thriving and has been for a number of years now.

I think that a couple of the apps still run 32-bit though.  So those are stoppers.

The real question is who is willing to do a 64-bit comparison of AMD64 vs. EMT64 on a linux platorm??? any takers? yuh doh need conroe, plain ole P4 with EMT64 should suffice. I say this because EMT64 is the same implementation for both P4 and Conroe albeit conroe is more powerful. In the least on a p4 with EMT64 we'll see if there are any crashes and stuff like that.

anandtech did some ocing of the e6300 and e6400 with the new revision conroes.
I was waiting for the revision of them and it seems that the first revision, B1, performs really really well.

THe purpose of their testing was to see what is the most stable oc they could get on stock intel fan cooling on the e6300 and e6400. They used a volt mod, from 1.300 to 1.350 and got very very very stable ocs with great results. So again i say the e6300 is well within budget and with a simple oc on air on a decent enuff board and yu will have the equivalent of an e6600 for almost 200 dollars less.

oh and looking further into the article
after ocing the e6400 in alot of tests, it comes very close to the stock performance of a e6800!! thats crazy!! and that is on stock air cooling!! with stability in mind wow!!
with agressive cooling and super sicko top of the line board and ram and power, wow the performance gain would be insane.

Core 2 availability starts on agaust 7th ( monday)  , intel delayed hard launch for a few weeks so retailers could stock up on chips and boards  , so OEMs like dell could get enough and so that  APPLE can launch their core 2 duo based macs and not look like n00bs ....

I plan to make Pr0wl stay up sunday night and order it... so it won't sell out  , and while i getting tan down the islands it will be shipping .

Intel pulls quad core Kentsfield into Q4

Desktop Roadmaps Weybridge Professional slated for Q2 2007

By INQUIRER staff: Tuesday 15 August 2006, 11:31

WHILE AVERILL PROFESSIONAL and Fundamental are still slated for a Q3 release, Intel has notified its partners that it will introduce Weybridge Professional in the second quarter of next year.
That's emerged from roadmaps seen by the INQ, which also reflect Intel's continuing push of quad core Kentsfield, pulled in for an earlier launch date.

Intel has also started using superlatives to describe its desktop processors. For example, Intel Pro is "best", the Pentium D 900 sequence is better, the Pentium D 8000 is good, while the Pentium 4 500 sequence is entry. Yeah, we know the last isn't a superlative, but you get Intel's drift.

The Kentsfield quad core will now be launched in the fourth quarter of this year, Intel said. Kentsfield will be numbered in the X6800 sequence, and will likely be the first of many more quad core CPUs in 2007.

The introduction of "Bearlake" chipsets in the second quarter of 2007 means several flavours of boards using NCQ S-ATA drives supporting Microsoft Visa Premium. There will be Bearlake G and Bearlake P chipsets in Q2, followed by Bearlake X and Bearlake G+ in the third quarter.

Wow, here are some lyrical mobo codenames to conjure with. Dragontail Peak, Hiwassee , Johannesburg, Montpelier, Glasston, Frostburg, Buffalo Creek, Leadville, Apache Lake, Ryker and Eden Prairie. These are all 2007 Intel mobos.
