All I can say for now is......

Oh WOW!!!!!

Thats really all I can say...until I've played some more, and judging by the performance so far.....
Lets just say that the minimum spec for this game is laughable at best, but then this is just a demo.

More to come later.

SSSTTEEEUUUPPSSSS!!!!   I know the feeling.  I have to WORK today (of ALL days).

From what I've seen of user feedback so far, it seems like the 'Shaders' parameter is the performance killer this time around.
When I clicked on the 'Optimal Settings' button (which is like 'auto detect'), the game set everything to 'Medium', so that
should tell you what this game really requires.  I'm sorry to say this, but a LOT of buyers are going to be disappointed
when they will be forced to run the game on 'Low'.

20-25 fps @ 1440 x 900 (all settings on 'High' with no AA/AF) cannot really be considered as 'acceptable' gameplay.
I can now truly understand why the recommended spec for this game was set so high.

In any event, I'll have to try out the new 169.01 Nvidia beta driver (which is 'optimised for the Crysis demo' as they say)
and experiment with the shader settings to see if there's any improvement in performance.

All in all, it has been worth the wait.  Serious FPS fans already know the deal.
Screens to come.....

Unfortunately the whole preorder debacle has touched off a vitual FIRESTORM of negative publicity for EA, and unfairly for Crytek
Once again EA has managed to FUXX0R their customers with a 'carrot in front of donkey scenario'.

First of all the demo was delayed by a month already.  Most people were willing to let it slide, because game delays are now
so common that it didn't come as a surprise (of course we were still pissed).

Fast forward to Oct 24th now when EA says that customers who preorder the game through their EA Link service
would get 'exclusive' access to the demo a good 24 hrs before the worldwide release.  So it was reasonable to assume
that this access would be granted on the 25th right? (Since the new date for worldwide release was pegged at Oct 26th)
Wrong.  The 25th came and went and preorder customers STILL could not get access.  THEN EA releases a statement which
suggests that there was a 'miscommunication' or 'misinterpretation' on everyone's part, in that the demo would only
be available to preorder customers on the 26th and everyone else on the 27th.... ???

Talk about a major cluster-f@ck...but wait, it gets worse.....

When said preorder customers begin to download the game, they then realize that there is some sort of 'timelock' on the file,
which, even when fully downloaded, cannot be accessed until about 30-45 mins BEFORE the worldwide release.  Keep in mind
that preorder customers would have paid MORE to EA directly (for a digital download, not a disc), than if they had ordered the DVD from another regular site/merchant.

When access to the demo is finally granted so that the demo can be installed, it seems now that this version of the demo actually needed a 'key' (I sh!t you not)
in some instances for installation.  WTF!!?   Who puts the need for a key in a DEMO!!?   Also, isn't it a demo's primary purpose to try to convert people to
order/preorder a game?  Why should customers be forced to preorder a game to get a demo?  EA's logic in this regard is severly flawed.
Unfortunately, Crytek is taking a beating also public relations-wise.  Add to that now MANY reports of the game crashing and running like siht on
many seemingly 'bess' rigs (although that may be attributed to a lot of n00bish users).

Not the way I would have wanted to launch 'the most anticipated PC game for 2007'.  Crytek should find another publisher...and FAST!!!

Try lowering the 'Shaders' parameter in the Advanced Graphics options tab to 'Medium', and try it again.  If that
still doesn't work, set everything to medium and try it again.  I haven't had any time to experiment fully so its all
I can suggest for now.  Oh yeah, leave AA and AF off.  Beserker has a 1950-Pro and did just that, and experienced
a significant jump in performance.

Remember this game was meant to be the new GPU-killa, just like the original Far Cry when it came out.  A lot of gamers
could not play Far Cry at respectable framerates until 1-2 years AFTER its debut.  I should know, I had a FX5200
at the time.  I could not properly play it until a new generation of cards came out almost 2 years later (6000 series),
with a 6600GT.  So don't fret.  People with uber-8800 GTX-rigs all across the net are also lamenting about sub-25 fps
performance also (albeit at higher resolutions).  New drivers and new cards will compensate soon.

shaders on medium...yup

It runs fine at 30fps when everything's set to Medium....

But you truly start to miss the visuals in this game..
Within the next year hopefully I'll upgrade my rig....
