Press Release:

EA AND CRYTEK ANNOUNCE NOVEMBER 16TH RELEASE DATE FOR CRYSIS Start Counting Down to One of the Year's Most Highly Anticipated First Person Shooters

Chertsey, UK - August 2, 2007 - Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) and Crytek, award-winning developers of Far Cry, today announced that CrysisTM, will be hitting retail stores in North America and Europe on November 16, 2007 exclusively for the PC. A technical achievement featuring stunning DirectX 10 and DirectX 9 visuals, cunning gameplay, and an epic story, Crysis is recognised as one of the most anticipated PC games and first person shooters of 2007, recently winning Best PC game from the Game Critics Awards: Best of E3 2007.

"Crytek is constantly striving to push the boundaries of both game design and technology, while maintaining quality at the highest bar," said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. "We're thankful to our fans for their support and patience, and we're excited to bring them Crysis this year. It's going to be worth the wait."

Offering true, open-ended gameplay, Crysis gives gamers an unparalleled amount of freedom that fosters completely unique gaming experiences. Players are outfitted with a revolutionary Nanosuit and an arsenal of fully customizable weapons, giving them a wide array of options not only in approaching the entire game, but every single objective or individual encounter. And they will need every advantage they can get going head to head against a menacing and highly intelligent alien threat amid dynamic, hostile battlefields that range from lush, tropical jungles, flash-frozen landscapes and a horrifying zero gravity environment.

Crysis also breaks new ground in multiplayer with the introduction of PowerStruggle - a unique team-based strategic mode for up to 32 players, where opposing sides battle for control of advanced weaponry and vehicles to overcome their enemies. For those who prefer the pulse-pounding action of deathmatch, Crysis will also feature an Instant Action mode, with the highly adaptive Nanosuit serving as the ultimate tool to outwit your opponents.

Crysis has not yet been rated by the ESRB or PEGI. Visit www.esrb.org or www.pegionline.eu for updated rating information. For more information about the game, log onto www.electronicarts.co.uk or the game's official website at www.nanosuit.com.

Apparently its Nvidia's fault too.  I've always said that their Vista drivers suck.

The screening part is not a problem, you can put in any spec u want in there. Very strange that they have all cards graded in even memory amounts (read 128, 256, 512mb memory). Apparently they've been living under a rock for the past 10 months and are unaware that 8800's dont come in 128mb, 256 or 512 mbs.

You have to be a member of some stupid founders club that costs $10us per month to get the file. Pffft no thanks. Im going to "acquire" this thank you very much Fileplanet.

Crytek talks up DX9 limitations

Laws of phsyics re-written

By Wily Ferret: Monday 17 September 2007, 09:12
CRYSIS DEVELOPER Crytek has finally weighed in to the DirectX 9 v DirectX 10 debate, spelling out for gamers what the differences in technology will mean for its upcoming PC title.

There appear to be differences between what the single player will offer and what the multiplayer will bring to the table. Speaking about the multiplayer aspect, according to a posting detailed here, the DX9 version won't have the spectacular physics advertised in trailers and demos so far, nor will it have a day and night cycle.

This means that the shoot-down-trees gameplay simply won't exist in the DX9 version, at least in multiplayer, with players reduced to passive interaction with the environment, rather than the active carnage that has previously been promoted.

The company cited high server load and low performance as the reasons for dropping these features from DX9 version of the game. To get the full multiplayer experience, including the high-end interactive physics, gamers will need to be running a fully DX10 rig, which means a GeForce 8-series / Radeon 2-series and Windows Vista.

Gamers with DX10 rigs will be able to play on DX9-specific servers, but not the other way round.

How this will translate into multiplayer is still unclear. Is the interactive physics being dropped from the DX9 version entirely, or is this simply a multiplayer limitation? As with everything regarding Crysis, information is drip-dropping its way out slowly, but we suspect all will be revealed only when the game is actually sitting on a shelf. µ

Err... call me the cynic but to me the highlight of Crysis other than the GORGEOUS graphics is the PHYSICS and how it'll affect gameplay... so for those ppl out there saying DX9 will be just as good... an article like this makes me wonder...

Yes it will affect gameplay, but still, dx9 users *should* still get a more than adequate gaming experience. I still don't like Vista for gaming, but hopefully SP1 should take of most of the problems and performance issues with Vista.

Nvidia 8800 FTW!!!

Vista is really nice for basic use, but for enthusiasts and gamers it can be a NIGHTMARE, because PLENTY
of my XP programs don't work.

Very interesting.  A multiplayer beta-tester put up some screenshots of the beta in action, which include game settings.
Original forum thread here.

Check the screenies (dialup users warning):

settings1
settings2
ingame1
ingame2
ingame3

Interestingly, he says that he is getting 30 fps with all settings on high, at 1920 x 1200, on a 8600 GTS,
in WINDOWS VISTA no less.

Do you realise what this means, o' 8800 brethren? :happy0203:

Would you believe that a mere six minutes after I begun making this post, said thread was edited and the links were removed?
Talk about timing boy...     Don't worry though, the links still work.

8600GTS is reported to play nice with the demo on Vista, which is no doubt in DX10 mode. Nowhere did he mention anything about DX9.

*De-harshifier*

On the other hand, you never know, you very well might get some surprisingly good graphics with DX9. Only time will tell.
