« on: June 29, 2006, 04:15:56 PM »
Anyone reads comic books in here?
What's the real story on this?
i haven't read anything beside Max Punisher and The X-men plus my company blocked marvel.com so i don't  know whats going on with regards to this Civil War thing between heroes in the marvel universe. Fill me in nah.....

hmm
didnt knwo this was going on
guess it stems from what was happening in house of M

although i have not been following the M universe, i just checked the marvel website adn watched the trailers for the civil war

seems like a bit of old with some new stuff.  Moving from mutant registration of old, to super hero registration of new.

Seems like they borrowing the story line from dc when the same thing happened in the dc universe and superman was on the goverments side, getting all heroes to register by force.

now this also ties into what iam finding strange.
FIrst off, why is spiderman preview being shown before the superman movie?? why is marvel so cozy with dc?

and now on the marvel website, THEY ARE SELLING DVDS OF 3RD SEASON OF LOIS AND CLARK, NEW ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN.

and iam WTF??? since when ish like this happening?

if i go on dc website and see marvel ish there, then i know iam either losing my mind ORRRR there is some kinda buy out going on or something?

Wikipedia to the rescue!

"The series centers around a newly enacted Super-human Registration Act, which, when passed into law, would require all persons in the United States with superhuman abilities who wish to use those abilities to fight crime to register with the federal government and receive proper training as law enforcement officials. Such persons would not only be subject to U.S. law (including the prohibition of minors from participating in such activities), but would, according to the law, reap the full benefits of civil servants, including pensions, and so forth. Because the forced registration of persons would spark a civil liberties controversy, the Act splits notable superheroes within the Marvel Universe, resulting in two super-powered factions forming, one advocating registration as the responsible obligation of the super-powered living in society, and the other opposed to the law on the grounds that it violates civil rights. This conflict builds into the titular Civil War, into which themes from current events will be woven. Writer Mark Millar has noted "The political allegory is only for those that are politically aware. Kids are going to read it and just see a big superhero fight." Some see this as a reflection of real world views on such things as Gun Control or the Patriot Act."

So, basically, Iron Man's leading the heroes against the act and Captain America's leading the heroes for it. One big superhero brawl here, folks.

actually Iron man's group is FOR the act and Captain America's group is against it.

Er.....whoops. I did find it strange that Wolverine would be on the side for the act, when he's actually against it. My bad.

....forgive me, but i really dont see the real purpose of the act? what would they have to give their REAL identies or something?

And is it just me, or is it somewhat out of character for captain america to disobey orders from his own government?

I see it as a nice change of pace for his character, actually.
Captain America's whole angle is 'To serve his country patriotically despite his own issues with the corrupt government.' I guess that after putting up with all of the corruption for so long, this was the straw that finally broke the camel's back.

not just that, caps belief in his country would also stem from his belief in the constitution and the superheroes that are against the act, would see it as an infringement on their civil liberties.
Its just as demeaning as the mutant registration act.

Believe it or not, that was the secondary aim of the 'Civil War' storyline....those who won't get the whole political mumbo-jumbo of the whole thing will still enjoy the whole 'hero vs. hero' tint of it.

I saw "the watcher" made an appearance so a hero definitely has to die. I like how it impacts on most of the other lines though. Just read amazing spiderman civil war#1 and it shows why he chose to stand by iron man and yes he does umask himself to the world so he no longer is spiderman just Peter Parker.
Wolverines civil war#1 gives his side of the story. He hates that everyone quarrelling bout the ACT nonsense while the guy who destroyed the school and started the incident that forced the Governments hand is getting away. So he is out searching for Nitro to kill him.
Want to read Punisher's account though cause he is just a boss.....

i like Spidey, but with all that agility he cannot go hand to hand with Cap. I dont know but for some reasons, i just like the Thunderbolts(maybe its Venom or Zemo or Bullseye or...). one of the events that stood out for me is when speedball adapted that new persona,Penance, and that suit he chose to wear, its like a damn toture suit with nails, and spikes, piercing every inch of his body,to make use of his power
