Battlefield 2140 vs Quake Wars

I was amazed to see today that Battlefield 2140 had gone gold.

Figured it would take many many more months before that game got released.

Totally shocking news.

Then I remember....Quake Wars.

With that game on the horizon, the Battlefield folks could not sit on their laurels, milling about. They had best release the game in record time to capture sales before Quake Wars is released and mops the floor with them for good.

Yup, that's just the way I expect things will turn out once the Doom 3 engine based Quake Wars goes gold. BF2 was great but with many many flaws. Flaws you tolerated because of the brilliant premise of the game.

Now what would you do if you could find another title, similar in premise but far more polished???

Switch, that's what. Leaving DICE and EA to salt with their buggy, has been of a multiplayer vehicle based shoooter.

My confidence in this premonition grew after reading a little blurb by a recent Quake Con tester:

Don't get me wrong, still happy to see BF2140 go gold but I am all the more anxious to get Quake Wars unto the LAN.

  BF2142 uses the same engine as BF2 , so it wasn't a serious project, more gameplay changes than anything .  Any pc that played BF2 good will be able to run BF2142 , i gonna try and get pr0wl to get my a copy for my bday : ) .
    I'm more interested in quake wars too , Battlefield has its flaws  , but quake wars is another 5 months or so away.

2142 is kool.....as TrinithereturnofGam said, it uses the bf2 engine so the graphics kinda similar. gameplay a lil different. i aint try it much yet.....jus finished "acquiring" it

GAMES PUBLISHERS like in-game advertising, but Electronic Arts may have one too far with its latest endeavour.
A Computer Gaming World podcast reveals how retail packages of Battlefield 2142 come with a blurb to inform the buyer that the game comes with monitoring software that will be tracking your online activities.

"When you use the software while connected to the Internet, the advertising technology may record your IP address and other anonymous information," the packaging states. The technology then delivers adverts that may correspond to your tastes, depending on what the spyware learns about you.

"The advertising technology does not collect personal or identifiable information about you," it says. This, however, will depend on what you get up to online, of course.

Several game-related sites have their readers up in arms over this piece of paper, and many say they have cancelled their pre-orders of the game.

Publishers should perhaps ask themselves why over 15 million gamers are playing MMORPGs and are not interested paying for games in which they play guinea pigs for marketing companies. µ
