AMD 4x4 (read 2core by 2sockets)
« on: June 23, 2006, 08:52:31 AM »
AMD is set to bring quad core, or dual socket to the desktop space, yeah yuh reading right, a dual socket rig that will support dual core processors and it's aimed at the desktop, albeit the Ultra gaming rig type desktop. However, knowing the mobo partners AMD has (yeah yuh know 'partners' that thing Intel like to WALK ALL OVER AND PISS OFF) the likes of Gigabyte, Asrock and others could very well make a low end, cut down verson of these mobos with the dual socket, but less bells and whisltes like 6 SATA and onboard coax out, etc. At least we can hope so. AMD partners prepare 4x4 mobos

Bolting together against Conroe

By Fuad Abazovic: Friday 23 June 2006, 11:39

AMD RECENTLY had talks with its motherboard partners and revealed to them its 4x4 anti-Conroe strategy.
If all goes well, the boards and the dual Athlon FX CPUs for ultra high-end gaming will be ready for the Yule shopping madness.

Back at Computex and shortly after the show, none of the motherboard manufacturers would confirm that it had started work on 4x4 boards but some vendors did acknowledge that there were talks about it.

AMD wants to take the gaming crown back and it is using Nvidia's strategy also known as, do what ever it takes to regain the performance leadership.

Nvidia taught us all that you can put two cards or even four cards together and flog them, and this is exactly what AMD wants to do.

Two Athlon FX 64s in a dual-CPU motherboard will certainly give Conroe a run for its money, no matter how aggressively Intel clocks its new babies.

Q4 is the target and by, Q1 2007, AMD should have established its quad-core babies to take the fight to Intel's Conroe. µ

Now also factor in that AMD will manufacture AM2 socket Opterons. So potentially, you could buy 2 Opteron 1200 I believe the series will be which will be AM2 socket Opterons at a lower clock and OC them (as most enthusiasts will know Opterons have more cache and are server i.e. better bin and certified processors, thus OC like mofos). Ultimately it could mean a decently prices quad core (plus who knows Reverse Hyperthreading x 4 cores equaling 12 IPCs) rig that will either hold conroe at bay or blow it out of the water.... time will tell, either way, the next 2 quarters look interesting.

ppfftt lol this is toooo funny

they goin over super hyper megazord level, just to meet the performance  of a conroe or MAYBE surpass its performance.

And what happens when intel decides to play this game too??
What then amd?? LOL LOL

Then is K8L+ core dude. That'll match conroe if not edge it on 1 to 1 comparison. But well we'll let you know about that when the time comes crixx don't you worry. BTW intel has a quad core that it is going to be touting as it's ultimate gaming CPU soon eh, (and so far I gather its a preschott type thing, bolting 2 dual core conroe onto the same die trick) so is not only AMD doing the quad, is intel too, save intel's offering is suffering BIG time in the memory dept with that antiquated FSB.

I'll tell you what will pwn:
K8L(+)+HT3+RHT
For intel n00bs, thats K8L+ core plus HyperTransport 3.0 plus Reverse Hyperthreading

Not to say intel doesn't have a good product with conroe however, a better bet would be:
conroe + HT or HT3(when its done)
Note crixx: HT is NOT hyperthreading, but rather refers to the Hyper Transport BUS

THAT would wtfpwn, at least until my first response

tsk tsk crixx and his fanboism... sad when a man so blindly follows a product... very similar to the cattle like following of the PS3... makes yuh wonder if crixx eh one a dem ppl in line for the new console in blistering cold for 2 days :p as for why intel would use HT3, simple, cause they catching they @$$ with CSI :p

antiquated fsb + conroe= ownage

so stop tryin to put it down

FSB sucks..  As proven every time a 4 core AMD beats a 4 core Intel system , sharing bandwidth 2 ways for dual core is fine , but once you pass that point there isn't enough to keep all your cpus happy , no matter how fast conroe is  ,when it comes to server apps AMD will still be in control.
Rumour has it for 4x4 systems intel is not putting in DUAL fsb.. which will help them take back the 4 way cpu market , but it will still suck for 8 cpu ystems .. Dual fsb also probably means Dual memory controllers on the northbridge ( or 2 nbs) and a dual cost..

Intel will implement Hyper transport or something like it within 2-4 years , HT is the future , but for us gamers , conroe is the now ( from july) ..

I plan to keep the DDRII with my conroe rig and go to an AM2  in 2008.

But Trini in 2008 we'll see the dawn of DDR3... and HT3.... whole new platform again most likely...

AMD's K8L quad core on schedule

For Q1 2007

By Fuad Abazovic: Tuesday 11 July 2006, 12:29

DESPITE news reported by our Taiwanese colleagues, our well informed sources confirms that AMD's quad core Athlon 64 X2 successor is on schedule. As we reported before, this CPU is slated for early 2007 and if all goes well we should be able to get it in early Q1 2007.
There are no significant problems and obstacles with the design and the CPU won't be delayed till 2008. This is AMD's horse to run as the firm knows that it needs a lot more than K8 dual core to fight the upcoming Conroe. The new Intel desktop CPU is due to arrive in just thee days from now and is getting ready to win most of the benchmarks versus Athlon X2 5000+ and the FX62.

AMD traditionally doesn’t tell everything to its motherboard partners and very few of them knew about the 4x4 platform before the last minute. I guess it is the same with the K8L quad core as AMD wants to catch Intel dozing and to take its crown back one more time.

So the quad core is definitely due earlier before 2008, I can tell you that.
