no midfield players for portugal is very significant. england will have the upper hand. However it will still be tough.

Anyone extrapolate to see I believe there will be a Argentina vs Germany match before the finals? Is it just me or does anyone else think that the 'draws' of matches are a bit skewed? Ghana vs Brazil? England vs. Equador <-- my bad, the point was no real BIG team pers say??? Underdogs vs. favourites? I mean be honest with yourselves, had England played Argentina, Brazil, Germany even Italy they'd prolly be GONE by now... yet they have such an 'easy' luck of the draw thus? and they've STRUGGLED... Here we have Ghana, a newcomer that's performing MAJOR upsets and MAGICALLY they're up against the (considered) strongest team in the WHOLE WC??? anyone else be me think it kinda too coincidental? anyways I doh really hate brazil or any team for that matter, in fact I should support seeing as they closest to us (distance wise) and not an 'white' dominated side like all European teams, however I kinda fed up see dem win, what do you guys think?

England vs. Puerto Rico
umm... W!nTry....not Puerto Rico...Portugal. (as a useless side note: Puerto Rico is ranked 196th in the world. They didn't even bother to try to qualify for this world cup)

but it is interesting, the potential Semi-Final match-ups coming...

Argentina vs Australia?
Ukraine vs Germany?
Brazil vs Portugal??
England vs Ghana?? (*ducks for cover from angry bottle-throwing Brazilian fans for suggesting the Ghana will beat Brazil to go to the semi-final*)

I want Australia beat Italy bad... I backin Ukraine as well for today's games

according to the fifaworldcup.com poll i looke at a while ago... 68% say Brazil and Spain making QF, 21% Brazil and France. 8% Ghana and Spain, and only 4% Ghana and France

nah well, remember, at this phase, is the winner of group A versus runner up of group B and    winner of group C  vs runner up group D, then winner of those two clashes

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2006/printable_wallchart/default.stm

the only choice a team has in the matter is how you qualify for second rounds.. ( which is why england didn't want to come second in their group, they woulda face a strong germany)
the groups were chosen since last year, with one 'seed' team, and the others  chosen at random ( with a couple conditions, as in you can't have a group you faced in qualifying in your group..at least i think so)

so is not magic.. is just how they both qualified for second rounds in their groups..  the structure of the games has already been decided since last year..  i heard , however , that normally the setting is skewed so that the home country would not face the strongest country in the rankings at that time unless the both reach  the  final ( is just a simple matter of puttin the strong country as the seed in the last group , and the home country as the seed in the first group)

gds, i was wonderin about puerto rico, yuh kno.. lol..

......i doh like brazil

I still not sure how England have dese easy matches though... you made the whole point of home team etc, but um... germany is the home team and they will most likely play argentina next rounds... which is fine I suppose, but lets say Germany would have had THAT much easier a task had they been in the line up England is in. And just outta curiosity isn't Ghana in line to play Brazil TOMORROW? where dis gds get England vs. Ghana???? arguing symantics with me :p bleh

look at this and you will see how I get to a POSSIBLE Enlgand-Ghana semi-final scenario (it might not happen, but football is a strange game):

Umm gds... based on what I see here, England first has to beat Portugal and Ghana has to beat Brazil AND either Spain or France (I rooting for spain as france's performance has been uninspiring thus).
So to sum it up:
IF England beats Portugal and
IF Ghana beats Brazil and
IF Ghana Beats Spain
Then we get that England Ghana... which is about as much IFs as a certain American Commentator used when he was speculating how the USA could have won the World Cup LMAO and we see where USA ended up. That aside, i'd love to see Ghana go through that far, I am really an underdog supporter. However it's SO unlikely it's almost impossible.

my predictions for semis.

Germany vs. Italy.

I think argentina peaked too early and italy play either the swiss or ukraine next. i think italy should win that quater final match. Germany are looking very impressive. argentina was lackluster in the last match against mexico.

England vs. Brazil/Spain.

England despite not looking specially good yet may overcome a weakened portugal. (no deco, costinha and maybe ronaldo) england hasnt peaked yet so that will be a factor.

Brazil or spain too close to call. spain playing real good and well brazil and their expectations.

Sidenote Portugal and holland both play real nasty yesterday no sportsmanship whatsoever.

sepp blatter wasn't too happy about that game:

Quote
The German press have billed it the 'Battle Of Nuremburg'.

But Portugal's 1-0 win over Holland was a tempestuous affair in which the referee lost control and issued 16 yellow and a World Cup-record four red cards.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter was far from pleased with referee Ivanov's performance and said the match official deserved a yellow card himself.

Blatter: 'There could have been a yellow card for the referee. He was not at the same level as the players.

'This was a game of emotion, with high drama but the referee was not consistent and there was a lack of fair play by some players.'

Blatter most likely send  home a ref for givin a man 3 yellow cards before showing him the red in a previous game:

Quote
Berlin - FIFA president Sepp Blatter has blasted not only English referee Graham poll but his assistants for giving Croatia defender Josip Simunic three yellow cards in Thursday's pulsating 2-2 draw with Australia.

Poll did not realise he had already given Simunic a yellow card when he booked him a second time and only showed a red card when he was confronted by the player when the match was actually over.
God is dead.
