new jpg .. new pdf?

what was wrong with the older ones? and will they be open standards. i.e. will  linux be able to legally read them, or will they slap a lawsuit on open source projects??

Their aim is to create a competitor to jpeg that is of the same quality, but at half the size.

I personally don't care much for jpeg's...my preference is with png's. But if they can attain the same quality with half the size, I'll surely give it a try.

sigh...

i doh mind it either, once the standard is open, and can be supported by *nix , and doesn't cause much fragmentation among camera and software vendors

though

porn looks just as good on my k6-350 with win2k as on anything else, i am sure...

i have a feeling this may not reach far outsive MS-land...though; people somewhat wary of MS's intentions.. if anything, it might make the camera vendors unite and standardise on something else lol

lol

A typical new PC can store more photos granted.. Would also blaze through viewing and processing them.

That old K6 would not even support 250GB and greater drives without some serious util action. Beyond the skill of the average consumer. No doubt.

but yeah, it is a silly notion to think that photos drives PC sales in and of itself.

Maybe a factor but surely not a major one. Never have we gotten a request to build a PC for photos, EVER.

yep, the name is some variation on bittorrent too and it was rumoured to show up in vista.

if you talkin about Background Intelligent Transfer ( BITS), that around for a while..

Quote
This document is an introduction to the Background Intelligent Transfer Service. It is intended for IT professionals who are interested in using BITS from within a software application.

BITS transfers files using leftover bandwidth. For example, if you are currently using 60 percent of your bandwidth, BITS will only use the remaining 40 percent. BITS also maintains file transfers when a network disconnection occurs, or a computer needs to be restarted: When the network connection is re-established, BITS will continue where it left off.

Note: BITS version 1.0 is included with Windows XP and supports only downloads. BITS version 1.5 is included with Windows Server 2003 and supports both downloads and uploads. Version 1.5 will be available as a redistributable for Windows 2000 and Windows XP following the release of Windows Server 2003. Uploads require Internet Information Services (IIS) server with the BITS server extension installed.

I don't think it's that. This technology had a name that sounded like a synonym to torrent, and it was supposed to do something bittorent-like but in a drm-ish environment. it doesn't much at this point though
