the "back in the day" gamer thread
« on: May 18, 2006, 05:29:09 PM »
NES and Pre NES days

Remember when
1. Yuh didnt know anything about game reviews. Yuh just see a game, it looking mad on the box, and yuh buy it?
2. When yuh padna would bring to school the LATEST nintendo power magazine (which was 1 year old) and sell the pages for 5 dollars like porn? LOL
3. From the time the game have something with Contra, Mega Man, Mario or Zelda on it, yuh buying it. Yuh eh even care if it good.
4. Having the WIERDEST name games that NOBODY hear about was a BOSS way to get a trade and borrow for Super C.
5. when any kinda spinoff from Contra or POW (SCAT and Bad Dudes) was considered "just as good as dem"
6. when the FIRST question yuh ask yuh padna when yuh get the game was "Iz a two playah game?"
7. When games made from movies were good, because we didnt know jack sh!t about reviews or anything about games, we just want to play Mission Impossible
8. When the graphics in the arcade was the BEST graphics you EVER see in yuh LIFE.
9. ESWAT was the SH!T!!!!

oho

10. When you used to go by a padnah (if you didnt have one) to play Comodore 64 games like Comando, Hunchback, Pharos Curse, frigging SILENT SERVICE.
11. Some of them games used to have to load from a tape and take an hour. SO yuh BUSY playing with the A TEAM scalextric track untill it ready.
12. When Street Fighter 2010 was supposed to be Street Fighter LOL!!!

feel free to add more.

EDIT: Double-posting, man.

dread, i remember since cartridges were expensive, you'd have to write yuh aunty in 'new york', the one who send the 'nintendo' in d first place,
and she would promise to get you more games if yuh come 'first in test'

or that of the <5 games you had, you beat all , or at LEAST reach second to last level boss..

blue or red ? if is double dragon, is billy or jimmy , not so?

I remember when:

1) To get secrets in certain games, you had to actually yank the power cord from the system and quickly plug it back on without actually turning off the system. Try this with a Japanese Famicom, and one of those 100-in-1 games.

2) The Nintendo Outlet used to be THE place to game. Arcades were a luxury you were lucky to go to when your parents went to the mall or your partners headed into town.

3) You used to blow on cartridges when the system giving trouble.

4) You used to run down by your partner to borrow games. Probably still done to this day, but most fellas just burn the games nowadays.

5) You had to rely on your partners and Gamepro for codes and secrets.....Gamefaqs?! What de a$$ is DAT?!

6) The biggest sweat you could ever had was six fellas, a SNES, and a copy each of Mortal Kombat 2 and Street Fighter 2.

And disciple, you hit the nail on the head with that one. Used to beg my parents for games allll the time whenever they went abroad.

Remember when the worst punishment you could ever get was having your game system confiscated and put away?

Remember when you would buy a system and it always had 2 controlers and a game.

To this day people in trinidad STILL want that LOL. "IS A TWO PLAYAH?" LOL LOL

And when yuh uncle and aunt bring back some game yuh never hear about "AH went in the store an tell them i want the LATEST game it have"

LOL i think ppl does still do that too
