When did Steve Jobs aka CEO of APPLE become the major stock holder for DISNEY????
Quote
Disney dumps McDonalds tie-ins

Something fishy as Steve Jobs is implicated in anti-fast food move

By Nick Farrell: Wednesday 10 May 2006, 15:52

FOR THE PAST decade or so, Disney has been doing promotions with McDonalds - usually to provide hard plastic objects in Happy Meals that are not burnt fries.
But, according to the LA Times, all that is coming to an end now that the Spiritual and Temporal Leader of Apple, Steve Jobs, has become a driving force at Disney.

The deal was believed to be worth more than a billion dollars a year to Disney and everything was thought to be cosy when suddenly, with Jobs at the helm, the Mickey Mouse outfit changed its mind.

Over-night Disney decided it did not want to be associated with high-calorie and trans fat-laden fast-food peddled by giants like Ronald McDonald.

The L.A. Times thinks the change of heart could have something to so with the fact that Disney's new lead shareholder, Steve Jobs is a pescetarian, which is a vegetarian who doesn't curl up in a ball at the sight of fish.

During a conference call last year, Jobs said that there was some value in fast-food tie-ins but he had some concerns, as society becomes more conscious of some of the health implications of fast food.

Coincidently, the McDonalds contract was axed within a few days of Steve's taking over. So Jobsworth won't even have to be associated with the smell of a Filet o' Fish.

The contract has gone to Steven Spielburger's DreamWorks Animation SKG, which has already jumped in to replace Disney. µ

I know there was Pixar but DUYAMN!!!!! Billy have nothing on this man (save more money)

It is precisely because of Pixar.

Disney snapped up Pixar in an almost desperate bid to remain current in the animation game. Pixar's flavour of 3D film has been wildy succesful whereas Disney's old school 2D work has been falling on blind eyes of late. lol

I love the 2D stuff myself, but you can't argue with numbers and the sales numbers say Pixar is king. Along with their new characters that are pure merchandising magic in the making.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, the purchase of Pixar meant their leader, Steve Jobs would now be a board member of Disney.

Here is hoping the marriage lasts and produces beautiful children for generations to come.

lol

yeh.. they was gonna ride out.... pixar, that is..  cah remember their last movie, but it was gonna be the last that they were gonna release with disney.. after that, they were gonna be looking for a new distributor..

since disney's animation studio has been doin filth for a while ( think their last couple movies TANKED.. .atlantis, treasure planet)  they said screw it, let's buy pixar before someone else does..

so steve-o on the board   but to me, when it happened, he said he not gonna be takin a large role in disney business, cuz runnin apple takin up all his time ( i think he gets a nominal $1 salary from apple, or used to, since he came back)

and here he is, takin away what undoubtedly is a large part of their revenue model.. the tie-in promotion with mickey-d

Well he is the largest single shareholder of disney now, so I'd expect him to take an interest.

I've always wondered though, how could someone influence people at that level?

Ok, so he is filthy rich, but everyone that is top dog at disney is gonna be filthy rich too. Try bossing 'em around too much and they could just say "to hell with this" and take a 5 year sabatical in Hawaii.

Money isn't a problem for 'em.

Would love to spend a month in the board room of disney just to see these guys in action.

Maybe they figure with the kind of sucess apple has with marketing (read Ipod) and with his clout from Pixar being their animation revenue generator they can't ignore when he say jump.

lol @ apple's marketing success.

Hoss, nothing can beat Disney for marketing and distribution, not even the ipod.

Remember Pixar's relationship with Disney? Pixar created the product....disney marketed and distributed it.

Their interest in Steve is because he knows how to produce that "kick ass product". (read Ipod / The Incredibles)

Indeed eh... but still the ipod sells like an expensive vietnamese wh0re on an american oil tycoon outing in Hanoi... I mean when a mp3 player makes some 40+% of your companies revenues, yuh tend to notice

hhahaha

Try a south sea chinese woman, I hear from some schlumberger guys that they are human gold.

Yeah, no doubt the ipod is a success story but not because of Apples historical marketing and distribution wizardry (or lack thereof), rather because of the awesomeness of the product.

Fine Form and Function idmc.

Apple is only now being a trend setter in the distribution game with the Itunes store (which is now doing video, woohoo for Disney)
