Oblivion tips
« on: March 27, 2006, 10:49:52 AM »
easy starting money
The arena - win up to 100 gold each round. Save and redo when you lose - they don't hide that ability at all. Raid the cash box for 500g if you're a sneaky sort

Graphical Tweaks
- If you think the land in the distance looks like ass, turn off distant land in the options: options->video->scroll down for distant land.
- Want more speed? Turn off (zero distance) grass. The gameplay isn't hindered, yes you're missing out one graphical feature, but on my 6800gt, slowdown can get annoying - and it's also a pain trying to figure out a rat is attacking me at times, when he's shorter than the grass... You can try cutting grass distance partially, but then you have to live with magical growing grass as you walk.
- Think your cpu may be holding you back a bit? turn off shadows.

easy skills to level
alchemy - combining components for potions has never been easier - you will always get a potion as long as you combine 2 items with similar properties, and alchemical items are everywhere - random plants, the bread and tomato on the table (which in particular actually is a very nice combo!)
acrobatics - easy because you can always find some height to jump off of to give it nice bumps each time.
sneak - go in sneak mode and stand somewhere where there's people not too close by. that's IT!
armorer - as long as you can find hammers, you'd probably have something to fix
restoration - heal yourself anytime, anywhere - it's the first spell all characters know.

Free arrows!
Lum gro Baroth spends a few hours each morning at the back of the Chorrol fighters guild along with hersomthing practicing on targets. Hersomething imagines he's shooting arrows apparently, but Lum gro Baroth would fire several arrows at the target - which you can take for yourself. he'd walk over collect and repeat - even though you took the arrows he's suppossed to collect. Wait till about 8 or 9 am for him to show up. He goes back inside at noon.
Other areas - the arena blue fighter also does this as part of his daily routine in the training area - sometimes he fires nothing though.

General tips
- you regen magika, not health. So for a character capable of enduring long periods of a thrashing, it becomes not just how much overall damage he can take, but how often you can cast restoration spells, and how powerful they are. Running backwards, casting damage overtime spells, such as the one given to you as an apprentice to look for Erathor (5 fire for 3 secs on target) while blocking /attacking can be effective against enemies stronger than yourself. e.g. with a long time damage spell, you can block-cast-(block-attack)* to get cumulative damage.

Just wanna jump into the game? If you want to play around and sample everything, you're probably going to hit a brick wall as far as mana is concerned. The pool seems small, even with a Brerton - racial class gets +50 magika. A highly effective combo to get the best of mages and warriors (the battle mage) is using a redguard + "the mage" birthsign. You can take Brerton and "the mage" and have tons of magika, but you wont have as easy a time as a warrior - remember i'm assuming you're out to sample everything for this paragraph - the redguard's power is extremely effective, and can turn the tide of a fight easily.
:P random text doesn't go out of date does it?

bieng a vampire is fun once you can maintain a supply of blood , you get bonus stats but a weakness to fire , though if you don't feed once very 24 hours , after you sleep you will wake up with greater power , but you can no longer go out into the sun...
Another way to get gold would be to  make lots of potions , it gets up your alchemy skill and puts all those things you find in the bush to use.... and you have little or no use for a potion that decreases your agility , silences you etc.
If you want to level up your attributes , join a guild or find a trainer , guild trainers can be payed to increase your skill by 1 point , also they give you a free place to sleep and more quests.
Don't forget,  to get back to a place you'v already been to , just press F4 and go to the map...
or more performance go into the .ini file , find iMinGrassSize=160  and set it to a HIGHER number ,the higher the number , the less  dense the grass is , helped a bit on mine 6600gt system .

Very n00b question here fellas. First time I ever playing a game like this. I'e gone through some of the tunnels and now i have become "over encumbered" and cannot move. I'm guessing that means that i am too heavy as a result of picking up many bows, arrows etc. Ho do I drop things?

its very hard imo , you have to click on the item  in the inventory and drag them  outside the invenetory screen , it sound simple but i have to do it like 10 times before the item comes out... Then you'll see the item floating in front you , DO NOT PRESS SPACE , swing it around and click and it will be thrown away .
OR if you can find a body / chest/ barrel close by , open it and click on the other icon of the bag at the bottom of the menu , that takes you to the Give menu, just give the box what you don't want..
Or you can use a potion of strength  or any power or spell that gives you bonus strength and try to find a chest before it runs out .

Sorry, I don't make the rules, just enforce them...GATT does not condone piravcy, and therefore, such a request is not permitted in the open (keep them in the private messages instead).

And your assumption that all my games are not originals has no bearing on the matter; whether or not that is true, it still does not permit you to make such a request here.
