Intel to introduce a new architecture every 2 years
« on: April 28, 2006, 09:23:55 PM »
Competition has the giant running scared finally , after so many years with the Sh!tty pentium 4   intel now plans to spend money on advancing their architecture  regularly  in order to outpace  ( or try to) AMD ... Rumours of integrated memory controllers by 2008 seem to be true , as a new architecture is scheduled to be released then...
This is both a good thing and a bad thing :
Intel won't slack off anymore, no more overheating , melt through motherboard, slow processors for high prices..
More speed for us , AMD will try harder to compete as well.. better prices etc...

 Bad :
A new socket every 2 years? no longevity in motherboards for DIY systems  , though since the prescott we haven't had longevity anyway...
Intel has enough resources and experience to kill AMD if they try hard enough.. which will be VERY bad for everyone , if they remain dominant AMD will go back to bieng an underdog....

Intel will grap top spot in desktop and mobile markets this year with the new Pentium 3 based Core architecture , AMD wil still grow alot in workstation and server market due to superior Opteron performance in  multi processor systems... AMD should take back the lead in 2007  ,  intel in 2008.. basically a game of hopskotch , hopefully it will stay that way ,more or less even ...

They CAN keep the socket constant - e.g. the 975 "Bad Axe" can run conroes.

The problem is the chipsets.

Also see 3. parallel design teams?

political bs is what kept the core architecture down in the first place. People recognized the speed from banias, but the netburst division kept it down. Oh I'm betting the man at the top of the netburst division wet his pants when he saw dothan. I can't imagine the internal struggle that's gonna happen with that.

Well to be honest, as fan of AMD, I think the sleeping giant has awoken and is NOT happy. Conroe looks like it will deliver and that will put AMD back on the side note. However K8L I believe is scheduled for Q1 next year so we'll see how that goes and well with a die shrink and some core tweaking they could improve the effeciency of AM2 since I read the mem controller on AM2 is like 55% effecient whilst the current 939s are like 80-90% effecient. So who knows AM2 might just leap up to the challenge as time goes and well K8L. I do like the fact that Intel caught up and will push tech ahead, cooler, faster, etc. I just hope the competition continues and we the consumer continue to benefit.

Doesn't that just mean he's smart and knows what's better for his wallet than a "fanboi"??

BTW - people on xtremesystems forums are playing with conroes

LMAO @ jd. What's interesting to note is that the core revision of teh AM2 have been improving month on month for the past quarter. The performance went from worse-bad-level-5% better. And although no substantial improvements are forecasted for the launch date (which is this month) we very well could see improvements along this line over the next 2 quarters leading up to K8L. At least we can hope.

Anandtech has an excellent if not WAY OVER YOUR HEAD analysis of the Core architecture and how it stacks up against it's predecessors and it's rivals. If you're not a techie (and a serious one at that, this article WILL hurt your head) if however you wanna venture it and really get an understanding of the architectural improvements the Core will bring have  read here

Wow i was reading to the point of almost falling off my chair....
but powerful info there W1ntry, its amazing how they work, but up to where i read
it seems that intel still has the upper hand in performing the proces
although the amd k8 shows great potential in the amount of processes it handles

^^^ did i say that correct.... <--- me needs coke cola...lol
