Anyone who want to do any gaming with that have to have a monster gaming rig to push them kind of resolutions.

yeah, but is a 14ms monitor!?!?!?!??
wouldn't be so good for gaming IMO
I'd prefer if it was less than 12ms. 8 to be greedy

ms and response time is the least of your worries at a native resolution of 2560 x 1600
like Neo said, you'll need an ultra uber monster rig to run any decent game at that resolution.
If not, you'll be scaling things down and looking at pretty ugly graphics for having spent circa US$2500.00

Ummmm...if you could even afford such a monitor...you by default already have a kick brass rig to power it wit quad-SLI in it prolly...

Another thing is that people get sucked into this response time thing. Many manufacturers use it as a marketing machine of sorts. For instance there are two different kinds of response time which are grey to rey and black to black. Many manufacturers quote the grey to grey rating which is not a very good jusge of how fast the monitor would be, but since these numbers are usually lower than the black to black rating, they quote them anyway. They might also just quote teh fastest possible esponse time of the panel and not the average. While response time is important, you can't really trust the manufacturers to give you totally accurate specs. I know this first hand cuz mydad has a 20.1" samsung monitor with a response time of 16ms and it produces absolutely no ghosting with video playback or any game I have tested on it.

interesting.
video plays just fine on my laptop screen which I sure has some sucky ms rating. (any easy way to check??)
but fps games just don't feel right.
It's not something you could quite put a finger on, but it cause nausea. Could be just a combination of poor frame rate and bad viewing angles, but who knows.
CRT is the safer bet for my gaming at the moment till I get to experience a decent 17" flat panel with native 1280x1024 resolution running games smooth at a fair price.

Yeah the monitors on the laptops have some sort of difference that just make them 'feel' different from a desktop LCD. I had your same view concerning CRT being superior for gaming up to about 4 months ago until i saw my dad's panel. The technology certainly has advanced to the point where a LCD can match a CRT's 'speed' and color reproduction. Even so, LCD's (the good ones) are way more expensive than a CRT of equivalent size. Given that fact, and seeing that I am not made of $$, I much prefer to invest any extra money that would have gone into a LCD and spring for that better video card, extra RAM or faster processor.
No way to check for the response time AFAIK. I guess u just have to rely on the manufacturer's specs.

Ok two things... A Ti4200? All games @ 1280*1024? What games do you play? These days my 6800 fighting to push out decent frames @ 1024*768 with games like Oblivion and Black & White 2. Next thing...how come u have a 20.1" panel with a native res of 1280*1024? IMy dad has a 20.1 Samsung with a native of 1600*1200.
