Mac Does Windows? Apples does Boot Camp!!
« on: April 08, 2006, 11:46:34 PM »
It seems that Apple now has come up with their own way of making Windows XP run on mac, and it real easy (and free)too:

http://www.technologypundits.com/index.php?article_id=289
http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/

Is an 85MB .dmg file download. I would love to find someone with an intel based mac to try this on and see for myself. We know that it has been done already, but at least there is a 'no-brainer' factor in it. Just might make me buy a mac mini now.  ^_^

mac hardware running windows throws 85% of my arguments against them out of the window.

Their inability to run the lions share of software (games being the most important of the lot)

The remaining 15% is proprietary hardware (mobo, case, form factor)

smart move apple folks, smart move.

Actually I think it was a smart move, not a desparate move. By doing this they can become the small form factor of choice. I mean think of it, the iMac or Mac mini are just suited for small office spaces, they look FAR better so would add to your office NOT detract as most PCs do and they are SILENT (another downfall of many PCs). If they could run windows in the event the office had software from before and want to buy new machine this is a good route. Alternatively, for those that always wanted a mac, its cheaper now with intel inside (I shudder at that comment I made... bleh) and they can dual boot. Run OS X which ROX or run windows when yuh just NEED to run that windows app. Also think of it, for those that buy the Apple based on looks and functionality or just cause it saves space they getting a good OS with it but they can put windows, however any how you look at it, its money for apple. So they can say develop their OS to work on a ... dell and make inroads in both hardware and software fronts.

LMAO @ good move and don't well you could look at it as Bringing some form of quality back to Dell :p but then putting a Stable OS on a unstable system wouldn't work so I see your point :p

Wait we can do Linux too!
Quote
Linux added to Macinteltosh triple-boot mix

Where do you want to go today?

By INQUIRER staff: Thursday 20 April 2006, 13:10

SPODS who came up with a way of dual-booting Mac OS X and Windows XP on a Macinteltosh have added Linux to the mix.
Although you can't boot Linux straight from from Boot Camp, the open source OS can be 'chain loaded' from an installed copy of XP using a bootloader named LILO, say geeks at OnMac.net.

The website was launched in January to get propellorheads to find a way of booting Windows on an Intel-powered Mac and managed to do so just before Apple launched Boot Camp.

Coders were then sent off to get the triple-boot thang happening, full instructions for which have been Wiki'ed here.

Well is about time. Given that Mac is a unix based OS, I thought that this would have been done sooner and made easier as well.
