Apple lets you run Windows XP on Macinteltosh

And so it came to pass

YOU CAN go to the Windows ball on an Apple Intel Mac, the firm said today.
It is making available a download of Boot Camp, which lets people dual boot on Macinteltosh machines. The download will be built into the next version of Mac OS X, 10.5, said Apple.

Boot Camp, said Apple, creates a second partition on your hard drive for Windows. Apple describes it as preview software you can use on a trial basis for a limited period. Go here for the download.

Naturally you will have to have your own legit copy of Windows XP to install the Microsoft OS. The Boot Camp software will burn all the required drivers to a CD so everything will run OK.

Apple adds on the download page: "Don't forget to follow best practices for updating and protecting your Windows system." Windows on your Macinteltosh is "subject to the same attacks that plague the Windows world".

I love how the entire world is excited over an unsupported beta. There was an article in the Wall Street Journal. I think it just goes to show what Dvorak was saying about how the media's enamoured with Macs.

This is really showing a change of the old school mantras.

Changing of the guards or removal of guards altogether.

I never thought the day would come really.

Amazing how this world changes.

The next thing I want to see is the Music and Film industry adopting the internet as the distribution medium of choice instead of treating it like a bastard child.

Ironic/Coincidence that Apple is also involved in heralding in that new era with their Itunes service?

Apparently the new version of macosx that includes boot camp also comes with the legacy bios emulator to boot xp, and it's possible to install the os without using boot camp at all. someone's put ubuntu on an intel mac that way.
