     Its a strategy applied by all big business , Sony did it when the dreamcast came out , released a game on the same day,    ATI does it when Nvidia brings out new cards ,  announce HL2 coming with their cards or something....
    And see how good it works? TSTT brings us the same Sh!tty service  , ropes us in with a promise of 'free phone'' etc. 
       Also apparently all those free phones are SIM LOCKED :  no digicell for your mc !

i going cic right so when i reach to school at 5:45 i see one set of line by tstt. I know that half the people there didn't read the ad right. then saw the news with people complaining the thing advertise wrong. But yeah trinis only see free or cheap and they gone. Buy first ask questions later

basically,what i gleaned from it,
1) you are required to pay a security deposit
2) the phones are sim locked ...in the contract you sign, you agree not to unlock your phone.. (who takes that on, tho? )
3) they require a contract ....with a minimum of 1 year, maximum of 3.. guess it depends on what the initial specials are)
and many other 'fun' clauses ...

sounds like the same khaki pants as TSTT..which is no surprise..  a telecom company is not a charity

granted, however, i don't have any first hand experience of digicel, so i cah say how serious they are with some things mentioned in there.. ( e.g. how quick they gonna cut yuh )

they for sure NOT going to have the same piss-poor Customer Service as TSTT..... that's the thing to be said for 'private enterprise', and  to some extent, 'non-unionised environments'...  in fact, the head of the CWU( TSTT's union) Lyle Townshend, admitted as such; that being non-unionised gives digicel and laqtel an advantage over TSTT     http://www.trinidadexpress.com/index.pl/article_opinion?id=88508634

Digicel will have better customer service as its alot stricter environment
i kno from actually speaking with a trainer for the customer service reps pass rate to get a job 96%  VERY GOOD
vs 88%  Sprint (US cell company)
vs ??% TSTT

didnt have the figs for tstt but if any one does feel free to add to my comment

anyway Digicel is gonna have better deals per minute charges and phones but they will be using the same GSM/ GPRS system that TSTT uses
NOW Laqtel is using CDMA superior system -------used by Sprint
also if any of the new companies the only one i would suspect may offer internet would be Laqtel due to the CDMA system vs GSM

Honestly, as much as tstt screws us over on a regular, I really am not to sure that all of this competition for such an infrastructa(sp?) for such a small nation is necessarly a good thing. Note I'm not prasing tstt, I'm just a bit hesitant with all of these 'out side forces'.

However I'll admit that it would become interesting in the long run, I just dont see it doing us any good right away...

slight teifhead,tho.. the phone the dude holdin on the 'products and services' page, is a Nokia 6100.. which is a GSM handset

( no CDMA model available, and i checked Nokia's jap site, and none of the fones there resemble it )

   I actually think service has gottnn worse since ''bmobile''  , its gone from occasional service in my area , a few times an hour ,  to NO SERVICE whatsoever except for once or twice a day.

i have afriend working digicell, and the kinda plans that they have is way better than tstt- even the service.. yuh aint see that digicell put up towers and test out the phones beforethey decide to open. they service real good, and anything that you wan on yuh cell yuh could get it.. i know for sure they will have internet on the phone that working real fast, but they might not release it right away as they open.. but anyhow yuh lokk at it, tstt shitty and digicel quiet and deadly... wait an yuh will see
