A man come back wit de same 'iron' on the same beat, and nobody aint call im out on it.  Us Trinis could be real stupid sometimes.  So he win not one, but TWO titles, great.  Thank god for 'Dead Or Alive', or this man would not have much of a career.

i'm sorry..  perhaps the man is a great performer, but he's not an talented artist, in my opinion...( and by artist i mean his voice, versatility, lyrical content and melodies)

every year his 'main' song sounds the same....yeh it catchy....  but it's been catchy since 2004

this formulaic nonsense just baffles me.. Arc said it best... is d SAME iron business, but no-one makin him out...

i don't really watch award shows/competetions ( cuz i does lose interest fast)  so i cah say his performance was good or bad, and i don't know who i woulda back , if i did..   i just fine he annoyin  ( but i must admit i like Don't Stop ..now THAT tune is good.. and if thas wah he win Groovy wit, props fuh that)

lol...then what would you say for the multi-Soca Monarch, Superblue???

ALL of his songs sound the same, and yet he kept on winning for how many years?

With that said, I was kinda disappointed that Patrice & Zan didn't win Groovy, they buss down one SWEEET performance, as my dad said, that was a real Motown groove...

true.. comin down to the end, superblue tunes were very similar..
BUT..  he had some big tunes in there.. like Ethel, Soca Baptist, and tha one he had a couple years aback.. about Sundar Popp etc.
but even his formulaic tunes were big ones..

( cept for Bounce.. tha was unmitigated toots..lol)

i guess when i boils down to it.. i just doh like shurwayne, yes.. and i'll continue to playa hate on him..

lol @ playa hate shurwayne.

good point re: superblue.

In all fairness, a lot of the foreign music we listen too sound the same.

Samplin is not uncommon.

You could just hear a beat and know it's a ThirdEyeBlind tune. Same for Blink182.

love 'em all the same. It's almost part of their magic.

Some artiste's are very diverse, like the recent Natasha Bedingfield. Wow, that woman has range.

And given the deviation from his standard formula in singing "Don't Stop", I think Shurwayne has earned his stripes.

The people love the stuff that he did before, no denying that....and it's great that he is seeing success with the groovy category too.

sigh.
that reminds me another reason why i dislike shurwayne.. apart from blatantly samplin his previous  tunes every year,( dred.. thas wah it is!)

he ruined one of my favourite songs,   Royksopp- So Easy for me, by takin the melody WHOLESALE and singin that garbage Don't Waste the Water

man, we've been hearin plenty disposable music these past 7 or so  years..real laziness, imo... i think it's a very distrubing trend..
every man jack hadda sample , or 'ride a riddim'..     where's the creativity in that?  i mean.. these clowns are supposed to be the inheritors of musical legacy of giants like Kitch, Sparrow, Bomber, Spoiler ,Merchant etc.

yuh ever sit down an listen to a vintage calypso ? REAL slackness!! REAL jones.. EXCELLENT music... now THEY deserve to be called artists
soca from like mid 80s to mid 90s was great too....i prefer that to what we have these days ( even superblue..and iwer)

but baego, them bands yuh call there.. i mean. no offence, but those aren't serious musicians.. those are pop stars ( nah i real like them too.. but i doh look to them for depth.. wait.. Third Eye Blind self titled first album was a  90s classic.. didn't really take them on after that tho)

and i think thas another reason why i dislike shurwayne.. the man takes himself too seriously....

maybe i need to stop living in the past.. accept the fact that musically, we gonna be bankrupt in 10 years... sigh

calypso is dying, if not dead,
and soca , although alive , will be a zombie..  with recyled beats, minimum lyrics and a great stage show...

groovy is a nice direction . i think we witnessin what our parents did when shorty invent soca in the early eighties; a new artform..  although it is still susceptible to the same lazy habits or samplin and riddim ridin..

time will tell..

lol @ Trinidad trinidad trinidad.

That is the best part of the song.

Yeah Disciple, I understand what you mean.....but I take things like music, especially soca, at a very superficial level.

Last thing I'm looking for is a deep experience. Just a catchy beat and energy to move feet and waist. Period.

It's simplistic and that is the charm. Nothing escapes you. Just direct to the point energy and vibe.

You can make a statement with calypso but you can make a living singing soca. The masses relate to it. Soon, the world will relate to it.

Same for groovy. MTV, BET, etc.... idmc.

Let 'em have their success. I'm not gonna rain on their parade.

My fav tune for 2006 (Band of the Year) sampled Enya of all things. lol

well we all know by now what win de Road March.  funny how the rules (sampling) seem not to apply when certain 'people' in contention.

study kernel roberts ( the composer ) stated that he didnt sample, had never heard the song until people mention it to him, and admits there was a similiarity in the opening bars of the tune, but not after

THAT i find hard to believe

I find it really hard to believe too. But in any case, even if he did sample the saong, I really don't expect him to come out and say, "Aye jed, yeah I really use the woman song."
It not gonna happen...
