[Blocked Ads]SO, WHAT IS AMD going to do to counter the upcoming Conroe based XEs, not to mention Kentsfield? Well, the obvious answer is the FX62, and that will be no slouch.
What do you do when it is not enough? Cache.

The next gen of AMD FX chips will have the full 'big cache' Opteron level of L3 cache, most likely 4MB. Until software becomes much more threaded than it is now, this will be more than enough to keep up with the competition, or at least keep things credible. For the first time, the line will be more than a plus one bin and no hard multiplier lock. AMD may wait until it sees competition before unleashing this, but it will happen sooner rather than later. µ

Hmm 4MB L3 and DDR2 800.... well we'll see... anyways here's the intel part bleh:

KENTSFIELD, THE NEXT GEN Intel EE chip to be launched in mid-07 has been moved up to early 07. On the down side, it is no longer a 45nm part, it is 65nm.
On the up side, it is going to be quad-core. Yeah, you read that right, Intel is going to jump to 4 cores for EE/XE class parts sooner rather than later.

This part is going to be more or less a dual die part very similar to Clovertown, and it will most likely share all of that chip's attributes, FSB, TDP and cache. If it carries the same performance as Clovertown, AMD is going to have to scramble to keep the gaming crown. µ

Its gonna get interesting soon as intel needs to do something about AMD taking market share so maby they got their ish together this round.  Especially as intel's biggest buyer DELL is considering selling AMD.

I really do hope they come good so AMD has to come better and maby have lower prices since they got totally raped the last round.

and can some body pls ban crixx he contributes totally nothing becides random bs. its been years since ive seen him post a single imformative piece of info. its always some smart ass reply that contributes  totally nothign towards the post or board.

he contributes once its  not AMD vs Intel or Nvidia vs ATI type arguments.....

 AMD needs to boost clock per clock performance by 15% to keep up with intel this round  , maybe they will pull it off.

[Blocked Ads]WE were reminded that AMD's launch date might mean much more than just the first day of Computex 2006. We reported yesterday that AMD plans to introduce socket AM2, Liver and some new CPUs on the 6th of the sixth of the year 2006.
Our fellow readers point us to a rather odd coincidence. June the 6th will be 62 years after the Allies invaded Normandy. So AMD can certanly use the Call of Duty theme as the background to its launch. µ
