Who's Winning the Console War?

Something about videogames seems to foster a severe all-or-nothing mentality in gamers. A competitive streak is no bad thing, but to hear most videogame fanatics tell it, anyone who doesn't come in first place might as well not even have tried. It's a pretty cutthroat perspective. Maybe it's just human nature; sports nuts tend to be the same way, and they're all huge, noisy alcoholics (or so the stereotype goes), which makes them even scarier.

So it's hardly a surprise that so many gamers love to fixate on who's winning or losing the console race. These days, Nintendo is the favorite whipping boy of the hardcore set: the company is losing, some sneer, because the GameCube fizzled out and lost its lead against Microsoft's Xbox. Any day now, they agree, the company is going to give up and bow out of the console race altogether. Every new corporate strategy is painted as a desperate last attempt; every new system is predicted to be their last.

That was actually interesting to read. I was kinda out of it for a while. I did not know what dominated in the console wars. Still Sony will get my support until the day I die, very badly

As soon as PS3 hits the answer for who's winning will be obvious. Has anyone checked up on the specs of the new ps3 yet, f**king amazing fellas. can you say mini computer.

SONY announced in this months issue of PSM

1. The PS3 will not be as powerful as the XBOX 360
2. There are going to be 2 version released. The HDD and non HDD version
3. SONY is focusing on world sales as MS is focusing more on US sales
4. SONY is spending alot of effort on their online setup this rounds.

My Animation teacher who works freelance for EA in LA was at a press conference this week for SONY and the PS3 with their final release of their developers hardware. The system is not as graphically powerful as the 360. Vids of Fight Night Rd 3 and Splinter Cell Double Agent were running side by side to show.

Dont think of this as a bad thing ppl. SONY is just realizing like Nintendo that it is inovation that makes games good. It looks like they are focusing on that. Notice how most of the PSP games hitting the system now are going to be 2D with some 3D elements rather than full 3D potential.

Its a bit too late for sony to start pushing the innovation head.  for months we have been bombarded by idle boasts of fantastic specs and performance. now that the 360 has been actually released they start to talk about innovative gaming blah blah blah. sony have to come damn good for people to buy into that line. but then the ps3 will outsell everything by strenght of sheer momentum. the ps2 will sell the ps3 full stop. just like the gameboy sold the ds initially. however i seriously doubt that after the initial sales rush their so called innovations  will translate into sustained  superior sales  as was the case with the truely innovative DS. In the gaming dictonary look up innovation

The PS3 will sell like crazy just because of its name alone. It isnt late for inovation from SONY atall. Their GT series can do with some tweaking and games like God of War and Shadow of the Colossus, both SCEA games show that inovation is DEFFINITELY not out of SONY's reach. Shadow of the Colossus is still my personal best game for 2005.

EVERYONE talks about inovative gaming but ONE thing i can give the 360 is the slew of games that MS is WILLING to fund that are NOT franchises. Sure there will be some misses but CERTAINLY some will hit home, and you just need ONE jewel to smoke competition sales. The 360 is showing a number of exclusives ranging from Gears of War to Full Auto, the Outfit, Blazing Angels.......theres one long@ss list. At LEAST we are not seeing rehashes....because dread.....i get fedup of Tony Hawk after the 3rd one.
