 Generally radioshack comes to mind with 2 generalizations. The first is price, and this is usually true. The second is quality - in general, RS caters to a lot of electronic seeking gadget using people, but they dont really push the envelope into any one thing really - e.g. the xmods - there's a lot of people that stick with em, but many have moved up to mini-z racers. I've prowled numerous boards on micro racers recently - zipzaps, bitchar, digi-q and lo and behold, zipzaps - especially the new "se" version with proportional steering really seems to win hands down.

That doesn't stop a lot of people from modding them to hell.
adding cells, changing battery type to lipo, using other bodies and "stretching" the chassis, wheels, gears, motors etc. Even use of better electronics, servos and radios. This stuff gets amazingly addictive.

So, i had to post my latest creation - 3 cell audi, that's one of the batteries peeking through the front as there wasn't space inside the damn car. Wheels are double width - merely glued the wheels from a second car in there model glue stronger than the plastic itself. Antenna is held straight up via coffee stirrer and wrapped the tip of the antenna around a bare paper clip pushed in there, which peeks it's rounded head out the stirrer which increases the range on it. Controller now uses 6 cells instead of 4, because 4 simply wont charge it properly anymore (using 1.2v rechargables) - and it's able to handle the exra voltage.

Fun to see this thing zipping around at these speeds though. absolutely insane. wheels really help against flipping too
With prices in the us at $10-$12.50 on certain models, these are a steal.

Actually i have one, but half the fun is taking a hot knife to these toys and ripping them up modding them to hell, and not feeling bad about blowing $10 on em.

That car is 2 cars - used the wheels, one of the batteries - thus far all i've done to my xmod is place a 2 cell aaa inside to make the car run on 6 cells. It's fast, but those cars arn't nearly as durable as the zipzaps.
