Music in games
« on: December 09, 2005, 04:28:12 PM »
Hey just out of curiousity....do any of you guys have a favorite soundtrack or theme in videogames.....I mean games have evolved so much, music wise especially and even top movie composers lend their talents in our favorite titles....

My favorite scores in games would go to: Super Mario Bros 3, Street Fighter (all titles except part one), Metal Gear Solid (all of them), Final Fantasy VII, Donkey Kong Country, Killer Instinct, Call of Duty (all of them) and all the Tony Hawk Games.

what are yours...hmmmmmmmmmm

- Jet Set Radio have some MAD underground hip hop style music

- SSX 3 have some BOSS music in it, the new one juss buss

- Burnout Revenge have a decent soundtrack

i got quite a few favs

The King of Fighters 96 Arranged Soundtrack - totally sweet, probably my fav KOF AST. Chizuru's theme "Fairy" owned all base

The King Of Fighters 99 Arranged Soundtrack - another great one, not as good as the 96 AST but it comes pretty close. Fav song on this was Kyo's new theme "Tears". SNK's original music team was probably the best in business at that time, producing consistently great music every year. Too bad they left after KOF2000 :(

Castlevania Series - don't got to say much here. Bloody Tears and Vampire Killer are my all time favorites from the series.

Soul Calibur 2 - "Chasing Death" remains one of my all time favorites, I got the OST for SCIII but havent listened to it as yet but the music at the menu screen is pretty nice and soothing.

Guilty Gear XX - totally badass, the Sound Alive concert versions were even more kickass, I got this on my ipod & listen to this daily. Got a few favs on here, the assassin's theme "Existence", Justice's theme "Meet Again" Chipp's theme "Suck a Sage" and Dizzy's "Awe of She" all get my thumbs up.

Zelda - need to say no more

Medal of Honor - had great music still haven't seen a OST anywhere

My Favorite Soundtracks:

1) Final Fantasy X - I found the haunting tunes of 'Phantoms', 'Calm Before the Storm' and 'People of the Far North' to be very calming, yet very invigorating songs. Very well composed, and a testament to the great work of Nobou Uematsu.

2) Mega Man X8- The entire soundtrack is very powerful, probably the best out of the whole series. My personal picks are 'Primrose' and 'Dynasty' from this collection, although the advent of Lumine is very decent as well.

3) Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Let's face it. I'm (quite literally) a child of the 80's when it comes to my taste in music. 'Broken Wings' and 'I've Been Waiting for a Girl like you' just brings back memories.

4) Tekken 4/5- Both have awesome soundtracks, the best being 'Laboratory', 'The Inner Shrine' and 'The Beach' (Tekken 4) and 'Dragon Mountain', 'Antares' and 'Finalizer' from Tekken 5. Very inspiring pieces, indeed.

5) Mortal Kombat Deception/Deadly Alliance: My personal picks here are 'Lava Shrine', 'Quan Chi's inner Sanctum', 'The Pit' and 'Yin-Yang Island' (nice change of pace to hear steelpan music in a fighting game.)

6) Marvel SuperHeroes vs. Street Fighter - The best soundtrack in the whole series. Wolverine's theme is simply awesome.

That's all I can think of, for now...

I hear you, wesleigh.
The old consoles had some pretty good tunes, as well.
It's just that, in this modern age of orchestrated and artist-produced game music, our tastes tend to evolve to the next level. It's not as if we've forgotten about the tunes that got to where it is today, it's just that our preferences have changed with the times.

Most of the FF games, thats one of the reasons I like them so much. Espically FF8....started to learn how to play it on piano(well keybord).....then I got lazy/bored....

Oh! Dragon Quest 8 has some really good music scores! Its not as spectular by it self, but it really does fit in so well with the game!

The Halo Soundtrack is my all-time favourite. The first time I realised how epic in-game music could make the whole experience
The Opera from Final Fantasy 6 was also very good.
