The whole thing with the large use and requirement of memory should have hardware devlopers shivering in their boots cause they'll need to cut down on their prices how ever wit hthis new dual channel mem thing that should keep them there, but does anyone know what processors will be best suitable ofr the new os?
I am awaken to the glory that is my birthright!!!

Finally Microsoft admitting that Windows is "not going to work" and that they need to start over. Hopefully with a Linux codebase if they're smart. http://online.wsj.com/article/0,,SB112743680328349448,00.html?mod=most%5Fviewed%5Fday

way!

well that's unexpected.

broken vista idmc.

The article is a bit misleading though. Sounds as though they admitting that windows is broken, period...when in truth they are talking specifically about vista.

What is important is that it said that the process of software development that Microsoft's adopted since it first started experiencing growth, where developers simultaneously work on all aspects of the product and then merge it together overnight, is fundamentally flawed. It only serves shareholders and not customers, with short release cycles and crappy software. The jig is up as it said. With the complexities of Vista's bloatware (who de france wants a transparent window, steups, we'll see), it's biting them in the back now.

lol

well the end result wasn't horribly broken with Windows XP. I stand by that OS as a solid platform.

I don't know what was so overly ambitious in Vista to pose such a problem for the process.

What do they plan to do instead?

Well according to this (http://developers.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/09/24/0626230&from=rss) and this (http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000697060298/) they're scraping the legacy code, and doing the code base over, in a modular fashion, which each module debugged automatically. Unfortunately I doubt that code base will be Open Source, since they still rely on lock-in as their competitive advantage. tsk tsk

Vista is MS's official name for project longhorn dude.... so its Windows Vista and for you to 'have' it, means u have 1 of the release candidates, vista is not officially out till end of 2006.
