TSTT WIRELESS BROADBAND FOR CELL AND INTERNET
« on: October 12, 2005, 08:09:32 PM »
TSTT just announced adoption of nortel high speed CDMA 3g networks , which would allow  wireless broadband ,next gen phones etc.  Apparently  it goes up to 3 mbits download , 1.8mbits upload  ,40 ms roundtrip , DSL technology can beat it in speed and latency    but availability in the bush is where wireless wins .   I doubt  we will see those prices immediatly but at least 256/512k .
  Green dot is WTF PWNT!!!
Plus this will FINALLY make our gaming WAN  a reality! Men on DSL and wireless will both be able to work together , plus the WAN nature of this techology makes it easy to ask TSTT to adapt it to our needs .

In August 2005, Nortel and Airvana completed live 1xEV-DO Rev. A calls at Airvana's lab in Chelmsford, Mass. using test handsets provided by QUALCOMM. The calls reached peak download rates of 3.1 Mbps and peak upload rates of 1.8 Mbps -- approximately 12 times faster than available on today's commercial DO Rev. 0 networks. The test calls demonstrated average round-trip delays below 40 milliseconds, which is approximately two times faster than DO Rev. 0.

CDMA...sounds like they trying to get a head start on LaqTel.

Regarding the high speed wireless - good news, very good news...but it's not like we didn't have wireless before. Satellite backbone is why the existing providers fall short of the mark; TSTT has full control over Trinidad's undersea cables. So while I welcome the advancement, I also say it real sucks that TSTT continues to have the capacity to push out these new services simply because their monopoly setup makes it impossible for other providers to have the kind of backbone they do.
Have you ever wished things just were?

Indeed

tstt is trying to market this stuff to coorperations first

and i simply say mehhh and shake my paw at them (a la dogbert)

it does suck that tstt continues to monopolise any chance of furthuring the communications of the land.

Owning the sub sea ocs and worse yet, owning the right to have them is mehh.

Tstt's shittttyyyy service (pardon my french) is going to kill this.

Iam putting my faith in laqtel for cdma

agreed

but after all is said and done, TSTT failings in the internet deparment are nothing compared to that of all the other ISPs on the island.

From Fiberline to Greendot. Pressura.

At least TSTT has crappy service and very solid internet performance

With the others you just get crappy service.

Hopefully Laqtel/digicel will change that.

If we are really really lucky, one of them will bring in their own line or wrestle their way unto the existing ones run by TSTT.

That would be pwnage.

1. Bush men will get high speed internet , equal to DSL but about +20ms latency
2.  high speed internet for mobile machines eg. PSP ( add on?) , cell phones , laptops.
3.  WAN applications , for gaming network possibly ,  to hook up  bussiness places over a high speed ish network .
4. when bandit tief your phoneline you can still get broadband.
5. when lightning strike the pole you can still get broadband

etc.
