Just when you thought ur old AGP card was at its end...
« on: September 13, 2005, 08:56:17 AM »
Yuh know if you're like me and are perpectually trying to do lil improvements here and there to your PC and eventually realise that its just not economical anymore so you try to MAX out whatever you have in the HOPE that there will be nothing left to do, at least not economically sensible anyways... along comes ALbatron giving ppl the pathway to take ur old AGP card to a PCIe mobo... now like myself who had an unexpected upgrade prematurely (via a steal of an A64 deal) and wanted to keep my then 9800Pro card... I was forced to buy an AGP motherboard as opposed to buying a PCIe mobo AND video card. Now for those that had more patience than me... comes ALbatron... they are kinda known for their video cards but they've really hit a nerve with this item... PPLZ its a AGP to PCIe bridge CARD. You heard right.. its a PCIe card that has an AGP slot on the other side of it that allows you to put ur AGP card in ur nice shinny new PCIe mobo. (This pisses me off somewhat as I would have DEFINITELY gone this route back then had it been available). Without using Vias hybrid mobo that is (although thats NICE too...) There is ONE lil catch thats not too much of a catch... its an Nvidia product ONLY. Now thats not to say it won't  work with an ATI card.. (i'm hoping) but there is a compatibility list and I suspect this card uses the Nvidia bridge chip which they used on thei 5950 to bridge it to PCIe. Anyways here's a link and a pic:

*jaw drops in amazement*

Take some CHAKURA (NOTE THE CORRECT SPELLING YOU PLEBS!!!) for that winny.

I woulda expect something like this out of the asus camp but dont mind it from albatron either
and yes i do believe that they shall be getting my money.

Now there is absolutely no reason not to upgrade to a pcie mobo
bravo albatron oh and of course bravo nvidia :)

well ok, i would say for scrutiny sake that some more things need to be figured out.
dont know if it was mentioned in the article or not, but wat does this mean for sli?

I would like to see some reviews of this before I buy one, because I'm DEFINITELY interested in upgrading to PCIe now.

The other problem is how to get one.
