SciFi Movie: Serenity
« on: September 25, 2005, 02:16:45 AM »
Well I live for good SciFi and this new flick seems to be serving that up in spades.

Serenity.

Check the trailer out here:

http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/serenity/

Seems to be follow up work to a TV series called Firefly that was prematurely cancelled. A fate of most SciFi stuff nowadays it seems. Not even Star Trek was immune.

Luckily, that didn't stop the movie from going into production and it's due out in a week or two!

Check out some pix to get your scifi gland going.

I have seen the preview for serentity and the tv version as well (yeah people it's still on sci fi if you want to get a taste of what to expect)...for the sci fi fans; you know you won't be able to resist anything in space so go for it but to me it lacks something, something that guns, a few action sequences and some humour will not cure...

well you obviously weren't alone since they cancelled the series.

a lot of people must have found something "missing"

well let's hope they put the right elements in the movie.

From the trailer, it looks promising!

Serenity actually got good results. I understand about Enterprise. Personally i liked it. Basically they dont know anyone or anything (not even klingons) except Vulcans so they bonksing up and fighting everyone. Plenty action/

Firefly the TV series failed in large part because Fox never really gave it a proper chance. Despite a large following, it left to make way for some reality show(I believe) and had 11 of its 13 episodes shown, and out of order at that. Firefly has a pretty big following though, and after the recent Firefly marathon on SciFi, I can see why.

I think this has potential to spawn a whole new set of movies. As for Serenity...I'll be there as soon as it opens. The TV series hooked me and the trailer looks quite good.

From what I've heard this movie is probably one of the best sci-fi action adventures ever made. Apparently it completely 0wnz Star Wars 1-6 combined.

I'm just basing it off the twitcast (http://www.twit.tv) ep 25. Patrick Norton is a big Firefly fan though. The funniest part was Cory Doctorow explaining how to enjoy Star Wars. Flip on Italian language dubbing and pretend it's Opera.

Saw it in movietowne yesterday.

Damn, this movie wtfpwned!

A great scifi effort.

Saw the trailer for Aeon Flux. Another trip to the theatre immc right thur.

but gettin back to Serenity, my only peeve was the western style lingo. Comes across cheap and makes the wise cracks seem particularly out of place given the futuristic setting. However, the monotone of the alliance makes for a perfect contrast. In a strange way, it works for the movie.

River, a 16 year old female psycho telepath steals the show completely.

8/10 idmc
