dred,  anyone tried out kompose, for kde?

kinda like expose, on mac os, it takes  a collage snapshot of all the apps on your multiple desktops, brings it to one full screen, and allows you to choose ( well, the desktop you want, at least).... think of it like task manager, on crack )

i'm really likin it ; that and multiple desktops has really changed the way i do ish, and increased productivity

yes jedd. kde's kicking tail with these apps. I think I'll have to switch to kubuntu once kde 4.0 rolls out.

Most people from developing countries still get their hands on windows - just not in a legal manner. It got so bad in china, I have stories from a friend here on how stores in malls sell burned copies of software.

you can always run both

vmware released their vm-player for free - and you can make images using the vmware workstation trial

if you want a fairly nice window manager for windows, unlike the expose clones out there that have black window problems, give Deskloops a try.
:P random text doesn't go out of date does it?

yup...  you can, using the same vmware player that beomagi mentioned  http://www.vmware.com/download/player/..   (or a regular dual boot)

infact, you can download an Ubuntu image made specifically for it, from vmware, and other images are available via their community, or various spots online, if you google it

http://johnbokma.com/mexit/2005/11/07/vmware-player-ubuntu-installation.html  shows you how to do it with a regular ubuntu iso, but i sure you probably could modify it  to ur distro of choice

You might not want to run Linspire. I'd say it's cuz the distro isn't free and only comes preinstalled, but they came out with Freespire the other day. It's more because the distro heavily modified so you can only realistically run stuff from their subscription based CNR repositories. Which is great if you never want to worry and have howmuchever a month to drop on that stuff. Otherwise, Ubuntu.
