Dsl router issue....

Alright so I got into my Speedstream modem. I disabled the internal firewall and set it to forward ports to 192.168.254.1 since it has only one IP I guess due to only 1 ethernet plug. Anyway I have a 4 port netgear router with wireless but I cannot seem to get file sharing like BT and Emule to go "green" They always say they are firewalled. I always have my netgear pointing to the right machines on the network with port forwarding. I checked and double checked.

It is weird since when I plug my machine directly into the speedstream they magically go green and connect faster. So I am wondering does a router on top a router not stack properly?
It is annoying since I have more than one machine.....

Anyone with a similar network setup got their ports forwarded properly to p2p?

lol asking if a router stacking on another router is bad

for multiple reasons, mainly double nating

but anyways
i would hope yu are not running dhcp on both routers first off.

otherwise yull have a hellll of a time port forwading,.

yea, double dhcp will spell trouble for sure.

make sure that you only have dhcp running on one or the other.

you may want to assign the pc with p2p apps, a static ip address and foward ports to that...

try that and tell us if it improves your situation

Another problem is the distance between ur modem and ur  router. If its say anything more than 70 feet or so it won't work. Trust me on this one. The modem is not able to propagate the signal to those lenghts. Just in case thats the scenario. That double dhcp would also cause u grief. You should consider a static IP on the modem as opposed to the router.

I have had my share of horror trying to get games going over that.

Don't even think about hosting a server. Port forward nightmares iymc.

Some games go so far to say they do not support any sort of NAT / firewall arrangement as far as online multiplayer goes (and for good reason)

It was interesting reading your prob. as we setup a VPN to Germany via Brazil utilising the simplist of equipment (speedstream, netgear and 'firewall').
