Setting up a wi-fi network , help?
«

i'm thinking of setting up a nieghbourhood network , how much will a wi-fi system cost? I need lots of range and power ,and preferably a 5ghz frequency , Can i get a system to reach 200-300 metres and go through walls? How much will it cost?
Also how much does tstt charge for a leased residential dedicated line ? Ie. an optic fibre run beyond the range of the dsl network , with bandwidth of around 512k? I'm looking at the option of setting up a neighbourhood wi-fi network and having everyone put up for the dedicated line .

Funny u should ask that.. today a colleague of mine was asking the same thing... what we had to tell him was EXPENSIVE. Depends on type of antennae, range, power, freq, but put it this way what we deal with here is G's worth so you'll be looking for an alternative, I can perhaps ask around as some ppl have done similarly. As for leased line... don't even bother that kinda $hit is more than 3G in some cases (T1) so ur better off with multiple DSL lines.

i'v decided to do it with wires and multiple routers , 100 us tops for the whole setup .
I can't get dsl in my area so i'm screwed :p, leased line or green dot .
also kaizen stay away from green dot for a long time to come , they are still screwing around with settings all the time and things will disconnect / change randomly , one minute you'r downloading @ 100k , the next @ 10k .

pressure for greendot.
if you're a skilled "d-i-y-er" you can make magic with wireless and custom parts.
If you're looking for off the shelf products, then it is gonna cost you an arm and a leg.
Go Pre-N as it offers the longest range. Be warned, it will cost 3 times more than 54G
The real bachanal with this, is getting people to pay month to month. If any of 'em stop paying, your mini isp could be in jeopardy. Need a dread bailiff
And don't even get me started on traffic shaping. lol

No commercial grade router is going to do that for you.
5ghz comercial has a 300 FEET thru most walls range( actually its less than 300 feet)
