Integrated graphics by Nvidia , Geforce 6200
« on: July 25, 2005, 09:00:35 PM »
Nvidia is bringing an integrated graphics chipset to the A64 market ,  its equipped with a northbridge that has an integrated Geforce 6200 TC , we have yet to see how 'crippled' it is , when ATI put their X300 on the nortbridge they decreased the no. of pipelines from 4 to 2 to save on transistor count , the nvidia chipset may be the same process and the same thing may be done by Nvidia .   The southbridge includes high defenition audio and integrated gigabit LAN and sata II  .
This means for people like me who are still waiting for the new generation of video cards , or those who have no need for high end video card power can rejoice . Up until now   only ATI has had integ graphics for AMD , and though the chipset is competant few companies seem to want to build boards around it , ECS , MSI and Jetway are the only boards i have seen thu far  .

Yeah, integrated is good for Granny and business places looking for cheap office pcs.

Gamers, should steer clear and play games "the way they were meant to be played" (tm).

Proper graphics card iwmc!

but the 6200 still will be faster than a 5200 , the integ X300 already scores 6500 3dmark 2001, 6200 will be even faster  . I may have to rely on one of the above for video while i wait for next gen video cards to come down , be it 7600GTX or X900  .

3dmark 2001 doesn't matter.

At this stage, it's a CPU benchmark.

3dmark 2005 is what shows the GPUs power.

How much does the X300 integrated score on 3dmark 2005?

True enough Baego but take into account that the real meat in nvidia and ati markets or shall I say their bread line comes from the lower and middle tier. The X300, 6200 up to the X700 and 6600GT's. Integrating the video onto their mobos now will add to their income and bring in those ever so needed $$$ for R&D. So to sum it up i'd say that its things like this that help Nvidia and ATI make R520's and G70's. We should be happy about this development. Then of course take into account its a cheaper way to get up to 3 monitors.

business places looking for cheap office PCs make up a pretty damn large slice of the pie.

Corporate buyers surely dwarf the rest of the market. I totally agree, getting into that market space is imperative.

Unfortunately, right now that is dominated by Intel with their totally shitty onboard graphics offerings. Just goes to show, that segment doesn't care about graphics performance at all.

If anything, they frown upon it. Might give "resourceful" employees another way to waste company time, running sweat on the office comps. lol

You won't find many 939 based mobos with integrated x300/ 6200 mobos in the business marketplace.

As a gamer, onboard graphics is only going to be good for "yesteryears" games. You can't enjoy Battlefield 2 at 800x600 / medium on an X300. Don't even try for 1280x1024.

If you're an RTS gamer, then don't even bother looking at Act of War or Age of Empires III.

Those options will leave you stock with Warcraft, Unreal 2004 and Quake 3.

So who is it really targetting?

It's no surprise that most Nforce4 motherboards don't come with integrated graphics. Afterthought iwmc.
