New MUD; recruiting players

I've recently come across another new distraction online. It's a MUD run by a russian guy I know (from another game). His name's Rakot and he's the God/Implementor. The name of the game is Middle-Earth Mystery. Based loosely on the works of JRR Tolkien. It's sorta new and so far it's pretty interesting. Alot of potential, but needs players.

So if you're at home bored and can't run any uber MMORPG's (Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, Lineage 2)
or maybe you're on dial up... then this can be a fun waste of time

Basically,

MUD stands for Multi-User Dungeon, Multi-User Domain, or Multi-User Dimension. Regardless of what it stands for, a MUD is an online environment where multiple users are logged on and interacting with eeach other. On some MUDs you only interact with other players that are logged on, similar to an online chat system. On other MUDs you can also interact with a game world where you can explore, fight monsters, and collect treasure, either alone or in the company of other players that are logged on.

    MUDSock, Pueblo, zMUD, GMUD, MUSHClient, SimpleMU, tkMOO-light, Portal, MUD Mage, MudTelnet
just to name a few

zMUD (http://www.zuggsoft.com/) is good, there's a free version to play around with http://www.zuggsoft.com/index.php?page=4&action=file&file_id=18

GMUD (ftp://papa.indstate.edu/winsock-l/mud/gmd3219b.zip) is also free, just old (but that's prolly why it's free now ftp://papa.indstate.edu/winsock-l/mud/gmd3219b.txt)

SimpleMU (http://simplemu.onlineroleplay.com/) is my personal fave, even unregistered it works well enough



Feel free to try any of the aforementioned (or even if I left any out). Some have pretty cool features like, spell checkers, auto-mappers, inventory databases... etc etc

but hey, windoze has it's own too.... it's called telnet LOL

How Big This Mud is?

It's not something you download...like a traditional game...instead you login to the server and you just play...text commands etc to move between rooms and pickup/use items etc...

Usually very small...like a couple MB at most...remember, they are client apps for a text-only environment...I've personally used GMud and ZMud; fantastic MUD clients...but that was back in the glory days of wow.net and interserv...i.e. 1996/97...haven't been on a MUD since then, so I can't vouch for their capabilities today...

u can try runescape as well it's cool. No download or anything and it has both free and membership gameplay.

Yeah, most MUD clients are a couple MB. Some are smaller (a few KB) and some are bigger (4MB+) but all are easy enough to get via dialup. It's ideal for those who don't have DSL or who just can't run (or afford to run) a graphically pleasing MMORPG.
