I thought it was only me having this problem.  I did some research and found out that the 'problem' has to do with the amount of active outbound TCP connections that Service Pack 2 allows.  Microsoft has 'programmed' SP2 to only allow 10 of these connections, so if your BT client uses them all, then TCP traffic for all other programs (like browsers, e-mail clients, etc) may be restricted.  Apparently this 'rule' was enforced or activated by a recent security update, because my BitComet client all of a sudden start hogging the connection.  When I kill it, I could resume surfing.
I eventually had to switch to UTORRENT for the time being, until I find a fix for this.  There is a way to 'patch' the TCP.SYS file in Windows to increase the TCP value to 50, but I haven't found it yet.
If anyone finds it, please post a link here.

nooby nooby nooby trini

well, a lesson in torrents.

If your running torrents and they are using up your entire upload stream.

Its gonna futz with all other forms of traffic.

If you know you wanna be surfing while torrenting, then use a torrent client that allows you to control your upload speed. Such as bittornado. Its a memory hog, but its efficient in managing traffic.

The greater your upload, the greater your download in the torrent world.
But if yu use up all your upload speed, yur pretty much screwed for surfing.

Btw, max upload speed on tstt dsl is between 24 and 26 kbs, so use it wisely.

But yu could just be like most other torrenters, just like proto said and just dont kinda be there while downloading torrents... DUH

What you said is all true Crixx, but I have been using BitComet for more than a year now.  I coulda download AND surf at the same time, and yes, BitComet DOES have a download/upload limiter.

What I'm saying is, after a recent 'security update' from Microsoft (via Automatic updates), all of a sudden, I cannot surf and download at the same time, even if I limit the upload/download bandwidth.

I have done (and still doin) quite a bit of research on this.  I WILL find a solution, and y'all will be the 1st to know.

Cool?

Well I never used Bittornado, but I have Azureus, from what I know its basically the same thing, but what I like about Azureus is that it "desentralizes tracking" ie some trackers for the torrent requires you to sign up to the site to have your IP address registered well...basically it goes arround that and you could download anyway :)

i really realized that about torrents, but can it affect making phone calls.. cause when i realized i couldn't surf while dowloading , i caled to tell a friend and i had no dialtone, it wast like a quick tone that lasted almost no time at all. had to listen real close to hear it.   then as soon as i stop downloading, i get back the tone...

it still happens but only when the prog. bit comet donloading at a speed of over 25kbs...  anyone knw why this could be happening?.. it happens on all three of my pc's

Well people, I've finally found a fix for this issue.  For Service pack 2 users, you can get a patch for the TCPIP.SYS file that will increase the number of active outbound TCP connections to 50 (told ya I'd find it).

I have tested it, and now I can download AND surf at the same time.

The patch can be found here:  http://www.lvllord.de/
