1) He must be proved guilty, a task not easily done.
- The charges are flimsy
- State seems to have rushed an arrest
- The state's involvement is quite clear given the Attorney General, who is a part of parliment, as well as the media, knew of the arrests before anyone else
- As a result, this will backfire, regardless of Panday's guilt
2) Past governments aside, this present government must account for the approximately $90 billion budgeted over the last 3 years with nothing to show for it.
- Eric Williams and Franklin Khan must be investigated in regards to the bribery charges by Dansook
- Rowley must be investigated regarding siphoning of resources from the Tobago Hospital project
- Allegations of Chin Lee's involvement in drug trafficking must be investigated
- These matters have been passed on to the Integrity Commission, which is at the end of the day still swayable by the government. This aside, there has been no word whatsoever regarding these issues.
If you think the buck stops with Panday, think again. Panday's issue is just the tip of the iceberg, and quite frankly the Piarco Airport fiasco pales in comparison with the $90 billion budgeted over the last 3 years by this administration, none of which seems to have been put to any real use. Our infrastructure and the security of citizens has steadily declined over the last 3 years. Where are our resources going?
I'm all for bringing politicians who have used public funds for their own ends, but the government of the day must be made accountable for itself first and foremost. I consider Manning's failure at every system in this country and our resultant slip into what is commonly known as a Banana Republic to be a far more pressing concern than how much the last administration stole. What happened to "Fix Me First"?
