PC Multiplayer Kart Racing

Having been a MarioKart addict in my younger years, I have always yearned for a similar sweat game on the PC.

The closest found was Re-Volt back in 1999.

Here we are in 2005 and I can't seem to find a better Kart racer on the PC.

Anyone out there came across one?

I don't think there is a game cube emulator that works at the moment. (foot in mouth alert)

Along the lines of Twisted Metal. Another PC favourite that we spent countless hours playing.

I've had a passion for unrealistic racing games - stuff like wipeout, pod, podracer - still like that - really did it for me. Especially podracer. The speed was fantastic. Now i'm playing ballistics and its ok, but not great. anyone know of a crazy fast unrealistic game for today?

hoss re-volt was rell bad... Open Kart Racing from ACT Labs was good if u can find it now.

just played mashed and while it is great, it has no network support.

which is a pre-requisite.

You gonna need usb controllers and to share the screen to enjoy the multiplayer madness that mash offers.

pity, cause it really is right on the money.

ballistics and aquanox were the first couple of games to use the direct x 8 shaders. Balistics uses stupid fast speed - but you race in a pipe on some weird cycle if you find it cheap, it's worth a lil thrill, but i prefered pod racer overall.

anyone ever play pod? it was one of the first few games to pimp mmx support.  a real gem since soon after it was made you could have downloaded double the given tracks and even more cars, thenadjust 5 attributes of each wack out looking car to your liking. Very straight forward, but it was fun while it lasted.

I still can't understand why it is so hard to find a kick ass MarioKart clone on the PC.

It is such an awesome genre.

Lego Racers is a pretty respectable attempt, but again no LAN support.

That is leaving out the PCs greatest advantage.

Revolt seems to be our only real option. Can't even find it again now that Acclaim is gone.

I wonder if all of their games are now freeware?

nah. when companies go belly up, their stuff automatically becomes dissappearware-but-we'll-find-someone-to-sue-you-for-piracy-anyway-ware
