true... look at bolllywood , 90% no acting , directing , scripting or storyline skill whatsoever ! and people accept it ,
Trini movies could be done , NEO's examples of  advertisements ( LOL @ dairy dairy) don't take into consideration that all the 'actors' were first time N00bs with no common sense , Trinidad and the caribbean CAN start off a small scale film industry , and make a few good movies , but we won't see anything big until we get more of our entertainment HOMEBREW : local anime artists making cartoons about rastamen with radioactive dreadlocks ,  local soap operas ( i actually liked westwood park , don't shoot me ! ) etc. to get the base of skilled artists/ cameramen/actors  we need .
Trinidad has alot of great stories to tell , and we could win a few academy awards / emmeys , look at the nonsense the americans movies / tv series get away with all the time !  Ripping off comic books/ video games,  ripping them off BADLY ( the new Doom movie has NOTHING TO DO WITH DOOM !Spider man was bitten by a RADIOACTIVE spider not a genetically engineered one ) .
Give the world a new brand of nonsense that is as hilarious as it is nonsensical  , Trini nonsense ,  and we can compete .

Trinidad have gorgeous women, so like dem fellas need to up their budget and draft some of the best in class beauties.

bwtmc, hear what we talkin about.

back to the matter at hand.

Shogun, what do you think about a local ANIMATION film industry?

A little birdy just told me about a project starting of that nature.

animation slowly pickin up in the region. They have a lady (can't remember her name) and she holds a annual animation festival. I mean in Trinidad alone we have some decent animators. not great but good, and i used to work with a couple.

One of the guys i worked wit, Francis did a commercial for republic bank and it was all cellshaded animation. to add to that he was the first in the caribbean to try it out. and it looked good too.

Thing is we need to start thinking in entertainment terms cuz we as a nation are all about academics and business.
so even meh padna Francis to used to having a business setting where there is a client to tell him what they want. no back bone or orginality creativity to do his own animated TV series.

(and also i think he really want to be a pilot not an animator)

yeah it could make it, definitely alot of sources for stories. even Clerks was just dialogue based and made on a low budget. oh and Saw, which some of you were raving about in another thread, that was made by creating a demo tape for a scene and getting just over $1 mil to make it. so good stuff can be made cheap, and with the diversity here endless possibilities for stories. people make films of fellas just sitting around talking shit, a trini version of that could top anything (prob even without a script).

I think we have a Caribbean Film Festival already: The St. Barth Film Festival(http://www.stbarthff.org/). I'm not knowledgeable about this stuff, but maybe you could look at prosumer technologies as a means of bringing the cost down. Just look at Systm(http://www.systm.org) and other internet vidcasts. Well, I realise they're not films but informational segments but its cool to see the simple things you can do with computers already to drastically bring the cost down. I think he was explaining what he did on Call For Help Canada. Google it to find the torrent for that episode.

Incidentally, I found out about the Film Festival on Caribbean Free Radio(http://www.caribbeanfreeradio.com) which, unless you're already familiar, is the first Caribbean podcast, run by a woman in Trinidad. She's hugely popular in the podcasting world, having been mentioned by people like Dawn and Drew and Dave Slusher who're uberfamous in the podcasting world. I'd recommend listening in, telling a friend, and voting on podcast alley. I find her endeavours just awesome.
