that's not a bad CPU temp. but what's yu're HDD temps? and having those case perforations in front of the fans(which already are quite sensitive to cavitation due to obstructions on suction & discharge sides)  is bad enuff, but a closed area(front door) is not too good. if you open the door does the sound of the fans increase or decrease? excessive fan noise is typical of cavitiation. Lovely Rig tho!!

Nope, no increase/decrease in noise levels. The loudest thing in my rig is the Video Card (under load playing game, in which case yuh cyah hear it over the speakers), otherwise it's pretty silent. The OCZ 700W GamerX PSU is SILENT, the CPU may be slightly audible when its HOTT and the case fans... I doh hear it over my AC or fan. So its pretty decent. OH btw the temps I quoted were CPU temps, the system temp is usually close to CPU, round 35 or so. THe hottest thing is the GPU, but thats to be expected. Even at 2.6Ghz OC, it runs at 38 degrees on idle. Take into account this is a socket 939, 90nm X2 system eh! Not a 65nm AM2 X2.

What an odd resolution...Nice score nonetheless. Overclock on the video card is sure to push you past the 10k mark.

It's a widescreen LCD monitor he is using

Nice scores though

Since I got my 22" LCD, My 3DMarks scores are now based on a DEFAULT resolution of 1280 x 960. (for 'normal' 4:3 monitors the default res is 1280 x 1024)

W1ntry I would say that you should re-do your benchies at the default res. You should definitely cross 10K

That being said, I thinks we can delcare the 'official' resolutions for our rankings as follows:

1280 x 1024 or 1280 x 960 (which is default in 3DMark06 anyways)

Hmm Philo our rigs are quite similar (albeit ur AM2 and i'm 939). There is 1 thing about the card I should mention and it was also mentioned on newegg's reviews. The cooler has 1 annoyance that's easily fixed. The fan can touch the frame over the cooler. All you do is remove the cover off the heatsink and then remove the round lip just over the fan, then no more noise from the fan touching the cover. That aside, its very quiet compared to my X1900XT and the system OVERALL runs cooler now.

As for crossing the 10K mark, I am missing a key ingredient in that unfortunately. I was also expecting a new HSF that would provide superior cooling for my CPU as I am unable to stably cross 2.5GHz no matter how high I push core/ram voltages. Your rig will fare better because your memory has a much higher overhead (DDR2 vs DDR). That being said I pushed the video card itself up to 700 MHz Core and 985MHz memory and witnessed something strange... my 3DMark score WENT DOWN! The higher I pushed the lower it goes O_o has anyone else experienced this on a 8800GT?

Could that heat sink not have been oriented vertically and the fan placed towards the front of the cooler? That way hot air could flow towards the back and be sucked out through the extractor.

Unfortunately not, the heatsink could only have been mounted that way as it uses the original mounting brackets of the mobo. Which is fine with me as I rather not have had to take out the mobo to install a new custom bracket. Also the orientation isn't altogether bad as my OCZ PSU has a 120mm fan mounted at the bottom of it, or if you will right ABOVE the heatsink, so hot air IS extracted out of the case ;) Lastly, I had to remove the size side intake 80mm fan as it was touching the top of the heatpipes, even so my cpu is running at least 7 degrees cooler and 9-10 above ambient. This particular heatsink was rated VERY highly on frostytech, actually it is the #1 heatsink now, above the Thermalright XP120

The Zerotherm is indeed a lovely heatsink no two ways... however..... http://www.frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm They actually rate the XP120 higher and the Zerotherm lower... if you check the link I put, it puts the ranking and you can click on each for the full review they did.

Interesting that they didn't include the ZEROTherm Nirvana NV-120 in that list, which has been proven to outperform even the
'almighty' Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme.

I like the HDT's conductive design, but using a 600-plus gram HSF with push-in type clips for an Intel CPU is
suspect at best.

I've OCed the card and gotten marginal increases in performance. I am of the opinion that I am CPU Limited. So the 10K mark will have to wait.
