EPSXE vs Connectix VGS

 this is a comparison between emulators EPSXE and connectix VGS .... most of us will no doubt know which one is superior , but i'm just doing this for the sake of my ill informed clan mates .

Test :  Tekken 3  @ 1024x768

 images were compressed using the same level of JPEG , i had to use a harsh compression that rally hurts the connectix's image  to get it under 128k ( BAEGO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS! ) .

 as anyone who is not legally blind can see, EPSXE produces far superior image quality than connectix, it also supportrs save states and joystick X/Y mapping , which connectix doesn't .  Though EPSXE's high quality mode needs a higher end PC  than connectix , and there are some compatability issues, eg. the EPSXE image could have been ever better looking with pixel shaders, though it causes serious slowdowns in tekken 3, but works fine in oother games .
  AT the end of the day i say : EPSXE better for more quality , people with gamepads/joysticks and higher end machines eg. 1ghz, 256mb , 64mb graphics , and more patience to get it working
 Whereas connectix just needs 2-3 clicks to get it up and running, and has already patched itself for compabability issues .

serious no contest, epsxe mops the floor graphics wise.

and like all good things in life, it takes some hard work to get it to work it's magic.

epsxe is better.  After trying both,  epsxe has more plugins and connectix is expired (I had to download a patch and all that headache just to get it).

however espxe uses to much resources and is more likely to crash

you forgot to mention that VGS has superior compatibility with games, that is all that it needs to pwn epsxe , why bother downloading 2million plugins for gfx , did the graphics matter when u had your ps1 previously ?

Yes it meant a lot.  To see my opponent get his but kick in good gfx in Street Fighter ex2 plus was priceless and I didn't have a ps1 nor any consoles.

 take a ps1 CD and make an ISO and use EPSXE to read it :p one other thing Connectix can't do.

well thats not totally true. with VGS you can play iso with a virtual drive ( like from 120% alcohol or clone cd). look ive been in emulation for years, ive tested Epsxe betas and im friends with the guys on the team but dont knock VGS. vgs is still the most compatible psx emulator. sure it uses software rendering but so does the psx. that said Epsxe gives you better rendering and audio thanks to Petes plugins yet not all games work !00% and some have serious errors especially Final Fantasy games.

epsxe als requires alot of patience and what works for one game may not work for another so you always have to play with your settings. yet i love it. its been years since ive use VGS and i dont miss it.

you hit the nail on the head right there.

well my aunt uncle sister in law nephew created epsxe and it really is the better looking of the two. Takes some configuring, but if you're into graphics, can't go wrong.

If you don't have patience to tinker and just want the games to run, VGS iymc.

Again, this is one of those rare instances in life where you don't have to "choose". Get 'em both and use 'em both.

VGS's compatability is overflaunted ,  i can get Chrono Cross working with EPSXE and not with VGS ,  many square games have finicky compatability issues that require special patches to work on VGS , and may still not work at all .  But VGS is much easier to use for any n00b, just put in the CD and play  .
