So yuh boy just upgraded his HDD to a 120 GB...DIY style.
...but the devil is in the details right?
So here's how it went down...
Stuff you need:
- Your current Xbox 360 HDD (duh)
- TORX screwdrivers (T6 and T10)
- USB flash drive (make sure its bootable)
- External USB HDD (or large flash drive)
- The
hddhackr tool
- The 120GB Xbox firmware file,
hddss.bin...and the last, but most important thing is a
special model of Western Digital 120GB Scorpio Blue laptop SATA HDD (WD1200BEVT),
which can be had on Amazon for WAY cheaper than what M$ wants to charge you for an
'official' 120GB HDD.
Lets start with flashing your new 120 GB drive...
Connect it to your PC, as the ONLY hard-drive. Then put the hddss.bin file, along with the hddhackr.exe file on your
bootable USB key, and boot your PC from the USB. At the prompt, just type 'hddhackr', and the app willthen ask which drive.
Since you only have one SATA drive connected, then enter the number corresponding to it. At one point it will say
that the new firmware does not match the drive you're flashing. Ignore it and proceed. It will then ask to create partitions.
Let that proceed. When it completes, you now have a 120GB which conains the FATX format used by the Xbox360.
MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE LATEST DASHBOARD UPDATE BEFORE RUNNING THIS STEP!!!Reason being...it now enables the use of any USB storage device as a backup medium for game saves, demos, videos, etc.
Now, connect your external HDD, go to 'System Settings', then 'Memory'...you should see two drives, your current Xbox 360 drive, and
the USB device you just connected. Press 'Y' for device options, and simply copy all your stuff to the USB device.
After the copy is done...disconnect your Xbox HDD and carefully dismantle it using
this guide. Then reassemble it with your new 120GB drive, and pop it back into the console.
Now, turn on you console and go back into the same 'Memory' section, and you should see the new drive detected there
with 107GB free. Press 'Y' for device options and make sure to format it. When thats done, simply reconnect your external USB HDD
and transfer your backed up content back onto the 120GB drive, and thats it.
Now you have a bigger HDD in your Xbox 360 for a fraction of the cost.

...of course...I
can do this for a fee if you're not willing/able to do this yourself, but you have to buy the drive.
