the odd thing though is that people actually willing to pay for the content outside of first world territories.

The smart move would be to offer the content, at least with DRM.
What have they got to lose?

THey end up losing more money by keeping their market restricted.

There are laws and liabilities that a US Company must go under when opening the market outside of the US. They 'prefer' to stick to a stable market such as the European or Japanese market. These markets can maintain stability with numbers, even in the face of a crisis (eg the recent debt the US country went into and game still selling like crazy, mind you EA Los Angeles is pretty much a hole in the earth now *junkies (not all of them)*).

A simple example can be the stores you buy your games from. I wont say all, but a VAST majority of them in the Caribbean carry how much? 3? 5? a maximum of about 10 of any SINGLE title at a time (eg 10 copies of Halo 3). Compare this to the number you see when you walk into a Best buy, Fry's, Circuit City, Gamestop etc. I mean you cannot even compare. And the reason for that is the market demand due to the market supply (everyone know their basic economics) These are the statistics that are used right now when even determining the viability of a market. I know...they dunno wtf to do with economics yet. They still learning *cough* videogamesfrommovies *cough*

Granted this scheme is not accurate, but the truth is the ENTIRE game industry is basically hanging on an @sshair of a business model, that changes EVERY WEEK...im not kidding. In a nutshell, they will get to it, but they still sorting their sh!t out in their primary markets still.

Straying from the topic. You are starting to see some changes....such as everyone adopting the model companies like Valve and Blizzard use....which is BETA TEST THE GAME INTO THE FRIGGIN GROUND...and then some!. geez...i mean......DUH! You would hear me fanboy ranting about Blizzard (or think you do). The point is them or Valve arent anything special......they just MAKE SURE THEIR SH!T WORKS (least better than everyone else). Their next step is to actually LIKE what you doing.....which i think some of these ppl still need to learn :P
Least SONY starting to do it. :P About damn time.

US Commonwealth countries like Puerto Rico get it. And all US Bases, wherever they are. They fall under the US jurisdiction.

Microsoft cracks down on modified Xbox 360s

All your consoles still belong to Vole

By Nick Farrell: Friday, 14 November 2008, 9:10 AM

USERS WHO have modified their Xbox 360s might be finding that the machines they paid for suddenly don’t work.

Microsoft seems to have been searching its Xbox Live subscribers to find those who have dared to improve their Xbox 360 consoles and is pulling the plug on them.

OK the 'improvements' do allow users to play pirated games, but Vole seems to be trying to stop software pirates by clamping down on the hardware that they have actually paid for.

The bans enforced are reported to be permanent, with no method available to contest the decision through Microsoft.

It is the second time that Vole has had a go at purging the mods from its life. The first Night of the Long Knives took place around the Halo 3 launch. This purge appears to be connected to the release of Gears of War 2.

What has freaked the modders is how Vole actually knows their consoles have been modified. On various modder forums, users have claimed that they had made numerous efforts to avoid detection through the use of hardware and software based 'stealth patches'.

A few users claim that they had disconnected their network cables while playing 'backed-up' copies of retail games, but were still switched off.

if you Alter it, sure...because you are altering the Patented design, which is illegal in itself. Modding is changing the intended design from playing just Original games to playing illegal copies...LOL

yu can do what ever you like to something you purchase
if yu try to sell or resell it, thats different, then your infringing on their copyright and patent

but copy right and patent do not govern usage of purchased goods.

But the purchase also has an agreement not so? Not to in any way modify the product?

By buying a current console you do not purchase it for yourself...only the RIGHTS to use it. This means .....read your license agreement. Microsoft, SOny AND Nintendo can f*ck you over for "vandalism" of their property (ie modifying it)..which you have the license to use but do NOT own. They ALL also reserve the right to BAN your account, and even repossess your system for NO GIVEN REASON. Thats how it is.....dont like it? dont buy it.
Just fyi...just about ANY pay to play game (MMO and such) follows this routine....its their first line of "cover my @ss" protocol. And BELIEVE me fellas....MS is already in Trinidad hunting pirateers down....10 grand US fine and/or 6 months imprisonment.......right off the bat..and this is worldwide. SONY not really cracking down as much...Nintendo too busy rolling in money to care.
i TOLD certain people about this 3 years ago...this was going to happen, those that doin the 'nahman it eh go happen, they cyah do that'....yea fella....they can.

There are people that are getting their LIVE account hacked because they are careless with their username and signins.....People call LIVE support pretending to be you....access your secret question bs and get into your account....Microsoft IMMEDIATELY suspends the account for investigation until they find out what YOU are saying is legit...which takes about 3-5 days. Was speaking with Dan Hsu this week about that....if you dont know who that is.....former Editor and chief of EGM....who got his account hacked. Know your recovery info.....be careful.
This sh!t is happening on PSN network too...so be careful.

You're luckier than MOST Xbox owners XD. Speaking of which, you now have at least 2 RROD's to return. So you'll have backup XD.
