So, I just got my new (refurb?) 360 last night. So far it seems good and maybe even better than my first one. For starters, I can actually plug my power cable into the 360 first and then into the wall outlet/surge protector. Before, if I did that, the system would not work and the power supply light would be red. I had to plug the cable into the outlet and then into the 360 for it to work. Strange stuff. Now, it just works. The system I received looks new without any signs of wear. A nice touch by Microsoft was including a free month of Xbox Live Gold with the system. All in all, I have to give them high marks for the entire process (aside from the fact that it should not be necessary to repair a system in the first year of ownership).

Xbox 360 to get HDMI port

Premium bond

By Wily Ferret: Thursday 09 August 2007, 08:55
MICROSOFT HAS confirmed that it is including HDMI outputs on its Xbox 360 Premium consoles, in a move designed to win back hardcore gamers and video enthusiasts.

HDMI, the prevailing consumer standard for digital video and audio in HD, was already included on the Xbox 360 Elite console, a minor upgrade to the 360 which, aside from being a sleek black, also includes a larger hard drive.

Now the port will also appear on Premium consoles, thus allowing gamers to avoid having to tackle the awkward 360 video cable - and providing direct competition to the PS3.

HDMI is a proprietary standard, and Microsoft is having to pay a buck or so to the HDMI conglomerate which, ironically, includes Sony. Microsoft, along with Intel and other PC component makers, has been working on a copycat port dubbed Universal Display Port, which is basically exactly the same thing but made as a royalty-free standard.

It might be too late for consumer electronics, but PC players are still hoping to avoid paying too much to the CE companies on the back of HDMI's success.

In the meantime, gamers picking up Xbox 360 consoles made after July should find a funky little port waiting for them on the back of their console. Isn't life exciting? µ

Now if I could get a refund off the price for my Elite unit not having a HDMI port, i'd be happy.

Spot the HDMI-enabled Xbox 360 Premium at retail
« Reply #625 on: August 10, 2007, 03:51:16 PM »

After discovering that some newly price-dropped Xbox 360 Premium units were packing HDMI ports – a feature previously reserved for the more expensive Elite model – we immediately wanted to know how savvy shoppers could track down these beasts at retail. Thanks to some pics snapped by anonymous Photobucketer "wonderkins" you can clearly see that the HDMI models are labeled as such. See, right there: "HDMI port."

The packaging has more details, however, on what exactly is inside the case. A label clearly refers to the model as "Zephyr" – the codename for the Elite motherboard. It would appear that the purported 65nm "Falcon" motherboard has yet to make it into stores so, for know, HDMI and an improved heatsink is all you're getting.

Boy Fries Himself with Hot Hot Xbox 360

Dumb, dumb, dumb. Apparently, a 14 year-old North Carolina boy was almost killed trying to keep his Xbox 360 from overheating. According to local news, the boy's mother found her son unconscious after he attempted to submerge the console in a pan of water. "When I left to go next door he was playing a game but when I got back he was laying on his back on the floor and unconscious," she said. The console, wrapped in plastic and tape, was still plugged in. The kid has read online that he could keep his 360 from over heating by cooling its power supply. By the time the ambulance showed up, the boy had regained consciousness. Thankfully, when the ambulance arrived, the boy had regained his senses. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and suffered small burns on his hand and foot. Kids remember: No matter what the internet says, electricity and water are NOT friends. They're not even on speaking terms.

Oh LAWD!!!  MORE overheating headache again. :shakehead:

Details...

More details...

At least they no longer sticking with acknowledging that there is a problem, but DAMN, this sort of thing
erodes consumer confidence.  MS cannot afford this right now.  Not with Christmas 'right dey'.

On a MUCH lighter note, check out the PLETHORA of online options  for Ace Combat 6!!!

*drools at the mental image of performing a 'low-G yo-yo' (look it up), and bringing the aircraft's nose on the target, and hearing the satisying lock-on tone*

I am SO READY for this game...

Just a reminder not to leave your Xbox 360 on all day in a plastic case. Not good for the machine! Rumors of better Elite performance aside, this must be the first conked Xbox 360 Elite I've seen. Bummer, because I quite like that sexy paint job. The platform's good fun, too. Shame about the quality.
