go play shenmue
Son. Lets draw farcry for an example. Look at the big whoop over the graphics at the time, it looked great, but it was the blandest most boring FPS evaRRRRRRRR! Aside from that, building a PC to run crysis comfortably is expensive, first off vista/DX10 cards run minimum of $400 IF you know where to look, average retail is $600. That alone makes it NOT worthwhile.

First off, crysis isn't out till later this year and by april-may there will be the full range of mainstream (read 200 and less) video cards supporting DX10. So 400 is off, granted you'll need vista but by that time most/all PCs being shipped from the main distros (dell, HP, etc) will be Vista shops. Also with MS intending for cross platform gaming (which is the point of this thread, thus we're digressing) the lure of a PC or 360 for that mater will be more plausible. Anys, back to the point, I guess its different stroke for different folks as I personally preferred farcry to MANY FPS that have come lately (eg quake 4 which was quite drab at best). If crysis does everything the producers say it will, that game will be the game to beat this year at least on the PC. That aside Unreal 3 is due out this year as well, so if not crysis then UT3 amoungst some other good titles will be enough reason.
1. When has a new graphics card EVER debut @ a msrp of less than $350? Especially one with new technology standards such as DX10? GFX card prices ain't going down baby. The more new tech they put out, the higher the can jack the prices, and people continue to buy. See SLI/crossfire. Those nVid 8800 cards came out @ $680.
b. Yes you WILL need vista to run DX10. b, ii. cut the crap about dell and all that nonsense, while those "gaming" rigs do sell, not one of us who call ourselves "gamers" go out and purchase those extremely overprices dell/alienware premade machines for gaming, we make the crap ourselves. Which leads me to a new point that you brought of for me (thanks ) the added cost of Vista to run these games the way they were meant to be run. OEM Vista goes for $200-$150. That also goes into the cost factor.

You don't read properly, I said mainstream cards are out in May and they ALL fall under 200USD hence the 'mainstream' tag. If you wanna bet money on this we can. I ain't saying they'll play with all the bells and whistles, but if a man could run farcry on a 5500FX and think that was good, then R610 and R630 should be more than fine to run the DX10 lineup.Quote from: camrE on February 12, 2007, 01:55:44 PM b. But hey who'd go searching for the best deal, I mean if yuh tech savy enough to build yuh own rig, why on earth would you look for the best price on the software too right?Lastly, dread you sound like the harbinger of death for gaming on the PC, we know you're a console man, but geez the negativity is astounding. Can we not at least hope it brings gaming to both platforms closer and make gaming as a whole better?
