Platform maybe a better word. yes, platform.

The best gaming platform is without a doubt, the PC.

Consoles are like 1 trick ponies in comparison. None can handle the plethora of genres as well as the PC can. None.

Keyboard + Mouse + USB Game Pads/Converters > console pads / keyboard mouse converters

Hard Drive > memory card

Monitor resolution > TV res

Nvidia / ATI mainstream Video Card > Console Graphics card

DDR 400 Memory > Console Shared Memory

All in all, it just wtfpwns consoles. Hands down.

They have to keep making console games "exclusive" to consoles so they will keep control of the market. If halo had come out for PC first instead of xbox, no PC gamer worth his salt would give a damn abou the xbox ver.

PC is just better.

That said, I am a BIG console fan and own/owned all the major consoles. As an ultragamer, it is my duty to conduct sweatage on every platform. lol So don't think for a moment that I don't respect the console scene. It's just that the PC is boss.

Anybody remember the NeoGeo?  To me, that was the bomb for consoles....I mean, it was the EXACT same thing they used on those systems in the arcade....

I don't think there's a platform out there that owns all others.
Each platform has it's pros and cons.

I wouldn't even think about touching a shooter on a console -
I'm still wondering why Halo was such a success on the Xbox -
considering the rather mediocre appearance on the pc.

RTS games are also out of the question.

When it comes to sports- or beat 'em up games however, consoles win hands down -
fifa or nba street just feel better + you have instant multiplayer.
Just invite a couple friends and you're good to go.

To answer star cons question about HALO. This game is designed to be a console game. It was never designed to be a PC game, its a port. THe game is SLOW because it isnt designed for a PC. Same as Unreal Championship for XBOX. Its just about a port of the PC version. Just as good, but can you play this game on a XBOX? not really no.

 I agree however that each console has its pros and cons. XBOX has superior FPS games, PS2 holds the RPG scenario and fighter scenario. Gamecube is hands down no bullsh*t THE most innovative console.

When a game comes to console alone the game is DESIGNED with a console in mind, meaning the controls. When it LATER comes to PC ( Chornicles of Riddick, Halo, KOTOR) all you get is a port. However, in recent times (DOOM 3, Half Life 2 and soon to be Far Cry Instincts) these games when brought to the consoles have been completely reworked for the console.

ok den. i know PC is the best since the creation of an emulator.
and controllers an so on. but in trinidad you will never to have a PC at its full potential. aka the internet that tstt provides (i say lets blow up they mc).
wireless lan 2 expensive so just 2 trade pokemon you need ah set ah cable. that suks, when with the DS just stand close..... aint that Greatt.

just a lil clarity on the halo scene, it was originally carded for the PC and later made an xbox title when Microsoft bought them out.

The reason it was such a smash on the console, is that their really wasn't any better FPS with such a great, cohesive storyline. Doom and Unreal can't hold a candle to the Halo script. I have always harbored ill feelings for Microsoft for stealing that from the PC Gaming world. Making us wait years to experience what was our birthright! Instead selling it out to the console world. The bastards!!

Coming so late to the PC market did soften the impact of Halo PC CDROM. After all the hype had been wasted on the xbox ver. Had it been a PC launch title, nothing would have stopped it from pwning the sales chart (save for game pirates)

It costs a handful of money from profits to make a port. THen the game makes allot of money. Theres is a whole article on this by Geoff Keighly (sp?) in the new OXM. Very informative. Basically he is saying if ports is the way to go and if its going to be the shape of things to come. Its cheap and profitable

wrt halo being slow: Im not saying it is slow because of a slow PC, its a slow paced game compared to say Unreal

WRT the made on a PC. Yes it is, but it doesnt mean you can play it on a regular old PC even a Ninja of a PC with kick!@ss G-card and all. The games that are sent to testers to play or on the clear green XBOX (consoles for example) or sometimes an entire PC is shipped to you with games that are being tested. But you need to get the tools to play those games, and up till now nobody have a PS2 and XBOX emulator for PC.

Personally i prefer consoles. Its just easier to use, its cheaper and you get just as much fun, sometimes even more than you can get on any PC. Plus the multiplayer aspect, especially on a LAN is more fun for me. You can play multiplayer with a minimum of 1 tv and 1 console. Easy setup, plenty fun.

ok.... good arguments .... i have had them all...from atari... straight up to xbox.....  and pc's from 286 12mhz  to Athlon 64+ 3000.... all consoles have their advantages disadvantages... the major diff between ps2 and xbox is that the market is split between for different types of games... ps2 has the final fantasy series etc... xbox .. halo etc...  the only problem with a PC for gaming is that a PC was not designed specifically for gaming.. its a POWERFUL machine that can be configured to play games as well as go on the net... type up documents etc.. Thats why some games will always be better on the console and some always better on the PC.  l would never play FIFA / NBA on the pc... neither would i try to play a fighting game on the PC... that sucks.. really... the console wins in that case... but i certainly wont try to play Warcraft on the XBOX ... lol lol...consoles give u fun for a cheaper price .. i mean ... u could get a ps2 or xbox for $150 US... what kinda pc could u build / buy for that price to run any good game decently.... so its a tricky situation... its better to have the best of both worlds... a good console.. and a kickin' pc..

ok with all said n typed... but it would seem as if the only leverage (if any) that ne console has on a pc is controllers... well again what about usb controllers? i mean they come in all shapes n sizes and of course with major resembalance to most console controllers neway ie ps2 lookin, n64 lookin, even xbox lookin. check radioshack.

so what does a console have over a pc i would go with easier setup for most games. doh have to worry about a console game going over the specs of the console... lol

but other than those two points ...... its still pc all the way cause they come out with the majority of game titles neway... besides its easier to  get a pc game ... heh heh heh... lol

the controller argument on the PC is now moot.

For the past few years we have been selling converters for every console controller imaginable. Allowing men to use the console gamepads on the PC.

Xbox, PS2, N64 and even dreamcast controllers. You name it, we can convert it to the PC. USB iymc.

The problem is that the PC takes a TON more effort to get a game going and to keep running. Consoles are way simpler to setup and use.

If you have the skill, money and knowledge, the PC is the ultimate gaming platform.

If you don't...then find a friend that does. lol

Being in GATT, that should be easy. We got tons of skilled PC people all around.

But Mr.Modem makes the ultimate point, which is, after all is said and done...we don't have to choose. Play 'em all.

xbox, ps2, gamecube, pc, de works. If you can't afford 'em at home, run to the nearest GL with 'em.

there is a set standard. It is called Directx 9 and it wtfpwns you.
You don't have to "hack" the system to get good performance, it's all clearly evangelized in the directx 9 sdk.

As for the topic, I can't see this one ever dying and with good reason.

New people will join and have views they will want to express. Things will change, new games, new console hardware, new PC developments that will add different dimensions to the discussion.

Converters on the PC scene. Converters on the console scene. Hard Drive and Networking add ons. Broadband gaming services for both platforms. Etc...

Dynamic Pros and Cons iwmc!

For example, I have xbox a notch above PS2 because of the insanely superior loading times. The HD add on for the Ps2 changes that.

I have halo on the PC above Halo on the Xbox because of the mouse and keyboard advantage and ease of multiplayer. Now that we have keyboard and mouse adapters for the xbox, it may be a different story.

Gamecube was a system for my Son primarily. Since getting Naruto Ninja Taisen 3, he has to fight me for time on it. lol
